Re: DIY clutch install

it all depends on how much room you want when working on it, you can also pull the trans from the top, but you have to drain the coolant and remove the water passage thats above the tranny

Re: DIY clutch install

I'm planning on doing my clutch in the next few weeks. Read about all 3 different ways, decided to go with the route of pulling it out the top. Subframe sounds like its tough to remove. I just need to pull the water passage off the side of the engine where the thermostat is and EGR valve. ISB is screwed or else I would just leave it in the car like in this DIY. Going to take the opportunity and change ball joints and brakes at the same time as well as my cat since i've got a p0420 code.

Like in the DIY I didn't remove the subframe, I had two jacks, one under the engine and one under the tranny, With a block of wood between the transmission and the jack it was easy enough to slide the transmission over to the control arm and wedging it in there. It was kind of tight trying to get to the flywheel off but it's manageable.

Yeah this seems like it would suck. I usually try to just mess with one system at a time just eliminate the chance of screwing something up.

I was swapping the trans so I did it that way so I didn't have to unbolt the subframe, the car probably needed the coolant changed anyways
