Power Steering Fluid Flush

I just got done doing a "flush" (more like a remove & replace) of my power steering fluid and thought I'd share my thoughts for others.

1. Use only Genuine Honda Power Steering fluid or at least fluid specifically for Honda/Acura.
I used Beck & Arnley fluid for Honda/Acura. I bought it on RockAuto, which is where I usually gets parts from, for about $3-$4 per bottle. I've read that using fluid that is not Honda specified can cause problems like leaks or pump noise.

2. Use 48oz total if you want the fluid nearly clear when finished
The fluid comes in 12oz bottles. I used 2 bottles for a total of 24oz of fluid replaced. The fluid definitely got clearer, but it still has a brownish tinge to it. I feel if I had used two more bottles, it would have been clear.

3. Replace the o-rings for the pump connections
These are the o-rings for the pressure and suction connections on the pump. I found them on eBay as a set for $4 free shipping. They seem to sell together mostly. The part #s are 91370-SV4-000 and 91345-RDA-A01.

Here's some helpful videos:

After each refill, start the car and turn the steering wheel back and forth a few times to circulate the new fluid. Repeat a few times until the fluid is clear (or close to it).

When sucking out the old fluid, I just used one of those hand pumps that Harbor Freight sells for vacuum bleeding brakes. It's a bit clumsy, but it worked fine.

I did this to see if I could get rid of a quiet whine at the pump...could only hear it with my ear next to it. Unfortunately, the whine is still present but I don't care. Most people NEVER flush their power steering and brake fluid. I like to do it as preventative maintenance. I'd say once every 3-4 years should be good.
