2001 instrument cluster bulb sizes?

On my 01 my odometer bulb has burned out. Anyone know what size that one is and how hard it is to replace it?

You may want to grab from dealer, they are slightly smaller then the standard bulbs you can purchase at auto parts store (and may even be cheaper) You should consider doing all illumination ones in cluster at same time. (easy to knock filaments loose at that age)

They're easy to replace, too. 2 screws, 2 bolts, and 2 electrical connections to remove the cluster, quarter twist to remove the bulb/bulb base

This is what I needed to hear. The far left light (temp gauge and first few digits of tach) went out the other night. Glad it's not something seriously involved.

Re: 2001 instrument cluster bulb sizes?

Just out of curiosity, hitting up eBay I see a lot of LED kits for replacing the cluster bulbs, I assume they have resistors built in. Some of the are T5 and other are T3, meanwhile some are just wedges presumably mean to replace the bulbs only, not the twist bases too. I'd like to be certain before buying, can someone confirm the items on this page for me? I've plugged in my make/model (it's part of the URL) so everything listed is claimed to be compatible, but I find it odd there are multiple types and so on. TIA!

Re: 2001 instrument cluster bulb sizes?

I've done an LED conversion in my cluster. You kinda have to build the bulb around the base to get it to fit right. I'll see if I have any pictures laying around of how I converted the bulbs.

I didn't use fairly standard 3mm LED bulbs when I made mine because I felt the light would be too focused, as a standard LED bulb tends to be. I used SMD LEDs, as well as SMD resistors to build the bulbs around the twist base.

If it's your guide kicking around here, I've seen it. I know I read someones recently. Normally I'd be all about doing my own lighting with LEDs and such, but the idea of a pre made kit that already diffuses the light is more appealing, esp. at the prices I'm seeing. If it were to turn out they weren't that great, I'd probably just buy regular bulbs and call it a day.

I don't ever recall making a guide, though, I could be wrong. I initially used ledautomotive.com's guides to convert my dash lights and used the same technique to do my instrument cluster lights. Had to mod it a bit to get the LEDs to properly utilize the diffuser, but it works.

Nope, I'm wrong, it was gearbox' guide here: https://www.civicforums.com/forums/1...sh-lights.html

Not seeing any guides for the dash cluster there, just climate controls and other stuff (which is still quite useful).

Re: 2001 instrument cluster bulb sizes?

There aren't any for the instrument cluster, but it's the same process to make the bulbs.

edit: specificially this guide. Again, I didn't use the 3mm LED bulbs they show. I used the same process to utilize brighter SMD LEDs I got off eBay.

Re: 2001 instrument cluster bulb sizes?

Guys,
Not to steal the thread, but I registered in order to obtain info. on replacing both the instrument cluster (dash) and the shift indicator lights on my parents' 2002 4 door Civic. Some of the dash lights have died and all of the shift indicator lights have died. I figure, if the cost to replace them with LEDs isn't that much more expensive or time-consuming, then I just might.

Does anyone know the approx cost of:
1) Regular bulbs for the dash and automatic trans shift indicator, and source for the same?
2) LED replacements for the above, and source for the same?

I kind of glimpsed over some of the above instructions and by "building up" the LED do you mean soldering leads and sanding the LED bodies themselves?

LMK if I should start a new thread instead of piggybacking on the OP's thread, which addressed part of my needs as well.

Thanks,
MG-70

Stick with bulbs, not cheap if oem but neither are leds. And no worries about polarity & light distribution etc...

Thank you Sir!

Where do I find out the number and types of lamps I'll need? Is it something available at Pepboys, Advance Auto, NAPA, etc., or do I have to go to a dealership?

Thanks for the quick reply!

Majestic, & hondapartsnow show diagrams and part#s.

They are not cheap.... but oem is best bet.

The shipping cost on a small order will drive up cost, see if dealer will make a better price, and let them order them.

Excellent; thanks for the added info.! I'll feel a little better about my parents driving at night, and it's getting darker earlier now, once everything on the car is in order. I'll be researching some other maintenance items, such as ATF flush, power steering fluid flush, radiator flush, etc.

Cheers!
