Stock D17 vs modded Si

So yeah, here is another story in a long line of them in this section of the forum. A part of me doubts that this will gain any more attention than some of the threads that were least posted on, but I'll give it a shot regardless.

I used to spend my weekends here and there on an auto-x track. I found myself craving racing so badly, that I HAD to make these meets. I drove up to Texas A&M University for meets, and I had a blast.

One event was called CostaCross (sp?). It is a high speed track where V8's shine. I come strolling up in my stock 02 EX. Ok, not stock, I had a DC Short Throw Shift Adapter on the car. Other than that, it was stock. So they put me in the next class. A class where I had to clash against a Civic Si, GTI, etc. I felt like I was out of my league, but I said the heck with it and decided to turn it into a day to have fun.

So we do a course walkthrough, and I close my eyes, imagining myself driving the course...that is the fun part...you have to remember the course, or you will definitely screw up.

Ok, ON WITH THE STORY!

I see the Si run, and I do an "easy" run right after him. He had me by 2 seconds on the course. The 2nd run came up and he knocked another 2 off his time. I come up and knocked 5 seconds off. Then he took another 3 off his time. So on and so fourth. In the end, he only beat me by 1 second. There were about 100 cars there that day...once the equations were worked out, I was the 20th fastest car there.

I talked with the Si owner, he had full suspension on the car. I'm talking strut braces, coilovers, swaybars, etc. Running on stock wheels with falken azenis. Not to mention that he was making more power than me too.

There I was, stock 15" steelies with yokohama rubber, and a shift adapter.

Amazing what a good piece of driving in twisties will get ya.

And may I add that even slightly modded Mustang GT's couldn't keep up with me on the track. Obviously, the vette's were dominating as always...as were the STi's and Evo's.
