Well, Poo. Here's a dumb thing only you guys would understand.
No one probably knows this, but next May, I graduate from Purdue. I've gotten kinda lucky while I've been here that I've always had an apartment where I could always pile my racing junk in and have it be out of the way. Most importantly, I've always had room for race wheels.
The thing no one knows, next fall, I have every intention of going to law school. Where? I dunno yet, but somewhere. Chances are I'm gonna live by myself but in a not-so-large apartment that probably isn't gonna have room for all this stuff (those of you who have a full compliment of race day junk will understand that its essentally as much of your garage as you can fit in the car + 1/2 the refrigerator). So, I'm left with this dilemma. What the hell do I do with all my crap? Especially if I go somewhere where there's something super local (yes, believe it or not, I am checking for SCCA regions as a secondary criteria for going go law school)... there is something called sanity that I wish to maintain.
Tools are easy, they fit in closets... its the stack of race wheels that has me both pissed and confused. I've thought of a few things I could do.
1. Drive on race wheels all the time.
Advantages: Sticky tires for off ramps, run what you brung simplicity, they're bright orange.
Disadvantages: Extra odometer miles (205/50/15), they're bright orange, my $1200 OZs sit somewhere collecting dust.
2. Drive on my OZs all the time
Advantages: They look cool, they're strong and light, they're not bright orange.
Disadvantages: They're 17's, 17" race tires are expensive, they make you slow
3. Change the race wheels to some other color, buy the right size tires
Advantages: They're not bright orange, can drive full time w/ no odo issues
Disadvantages: They're not bright orange anymore, correct size sticky tires are expensive
4. Buy another set of 15's
Advantages: They won't be orange, 7" wide
Disadvantages: Do I need FOUR sets of wheels?
5. Take both sets, make race wheels into functional furnature like bar stools or coffee table legs.
Advantages: 2 birds/one stone, don't have to buy furnature, might be cool furnature
Disadvantages: Brake dust, tire marbles, taking furnature apart to race
6. Sell both, split the difference, buy 1 set of superlight 16s and call it a day.
Advantages: problem solved
Disadvantages: I gotta sell my wheels
Anyone have any bright ideas?
Or just tell me, what the heck would you do in this situation?
I'm probably ahead of myself, but I always think ahead too far.

i had my racing rims sitting in my room for about 2 months.
Advantages: get to smell rubber all the time, don't need another room for rims.
Disadvantages: have to smell rubber all the time. They might get in the way if you don't find a good corner.
How small of a place are you gonna move into? I mean if you find a aparment with a big enough bedroom, i'd just stuff them in a corner.

Yea I have all my tires piled up in the corner right next to the TV, nice ornament. When I get married next spring, you bet your *** theyre going right in the corner wherever we move. They dont really smell that bad, if theyre clean.
But I kinda like the idea of getting a big piece of glass & making a badass coffee table, hmmm... I might just do that in our new apartment.
I really dont think theyre enough of a hassle to have to sell them, they take up like 1 1/2 feet of room if in the corner.

Yes it does, so?? these are his race tires.... and I dont think hes worried about Mileage or Resale..... I know I'm not. and I run the same size race tires.
Says Spencer, who has 83,000+ miles on his 2001 EX. With 2 Years worth of autocross..

Its not milage or resale... its putting a nail into a race tire and rendering it useless that worries me. Thats why I don't drive on the street with them unless I have to.

i did the same this this year when i was picking my air force base to station at after I got my Mech. Engineering degree.
I'm stationed in central coast california. Right in the middle of all the SoCal and NorCal race tracks and autoXes.
Sell the 17's. Run the race tires in the summer and stockies in the winter. Use the unused wheels as a corner table. I just put mx's on my stock wheels and I'm hoping to get a year out of them autocrossing and daily driving.
