steering suddenly hard while turning

When the line pressure gets too high, the relief/bypass valve activates and the system shuts off the supply to the steering rack. When the pressure is reduced, the valve closes and fluid is once again supplied to the rack.

Above is the problem i have at solo2 events, my steering just suddenly very very hard to turn like its locked, anyone know how I can make this problem go away?and those of u that autox, do u disable the abs, will it be better or worse without abs?

thanks

are you sure its the steering rack thats causing the problem? Because even with no fluid being pumped, as long as the car is moving the wheel should be fairly easy to turn. Maybe something is binding, how low do you have the car and what camber/caster/toe settings do you have? also, are you at Full lock with the wheel? how about Throttle position, are you on the gas when this happens?

Regarding ABS, its well documented that Most cars perform MUCH better with out ABS on the track, however most classes do not let you disable it. so check your rule book.

It happens to me when taking very tight turns with heavy throttle application. It might be torque steer

^^ that sounds like the problem... Tight turns and Heavy throttle ushually dont mix...

the way I was tought was this: Imagine a string attached to the steering wheel and the gas pedal. as you turn the steering wheel, the string pulls on the gas reducing Throttle. as you recenter the steering wheel, the string unwinds, allowing you to apply more throttle.

I never did on my 01 EX (Its not legal for STS), but I now Co-drive an 89 Si and it doesnt have ABS, and with the same tires, I feel like I can brake Much harder then with my EX.

the upside of ABS is that it will prevent you from Flatspotting tires...

cryption should not be trusted
also with torque steer you can think of it like this ... on a front drive are you're asking the tires to power, stop, and turn the car. You can only ask 100% from the tires so as you ask one thing to go higher (i.e. acceleration) something else is going to have to slack .. such as your turning.

When you accelerate hard in a turn, your fluid cant keep up with the movements of the car. Resulting in no fluid for the steering. Its just like not having power steering in the first place.

I 'd rather not start a new thread but I 'm having a similar problem but with NOISE.

After about 1hr+ of highway driving or any kind of driving, when I pull into my driveway, or a parking lot, at very low speeds, I hear like a loud metal/dragging noise (almost sounds like the brakes) but I feel it through the steering wheel, and only does it when I turn the wheel to park the car or going straight at like 5-10mph. After a few min. of cool down, or if I get it up over 15mph, the noise goes away (or I can't hear it). Not sure if it's the steering rack or the calipers.. It feels more like the steering to me because the noise increases when I turn the steering wheel and it's coming from the front of the car. Any input would be appreciated!
