New to the site

Hello,

I am from Southern Alberta. I used to own a civic, a 9th gen EX-L 2011 model. Slow, poor handling and automatic but decent on gas. I traded up to a 2013 Taurus SEL and made a giant mistake. Bad mileage, buggy software/electronics.

So I am looking to get my first civic.

Criteria:
4 door
Standard

And that's about it. I have things I want to do to it. It is going to be my new daily driver instead of the taurus. It needs to be cheap so nothing wild.

A quick browse of the classifieds local to me reveals various trims and generations, from the 4th gen, up to 8th gen.

So what should I look at purchasing?

6th gen is good for aftermarket support

but since you mentioned 4 doors, I gather you need space for other people

the newer generations are larger and have nicer interiors.

Interior wise don't care too much honestly. I need 4 doors because I need a car seat in the back. I can always fix up the interior of the car, leather is nice but heavy, cCivic lx b18cold in winter, warm in summer. Like I said kid trashes my cars almost instantly.

A large vehicle is nice, but I moved across country in my 9th gen, didn't even fill the car up before the rear suspension started bagging out.

Found an Civic SI 4 door, 2005 for sale. I get the K20 is a decent motor but sluggish. Is it worth it to go for one of them?

Si are great cars but since it has K20 and manual transmission most of them are used pretty roughly so before buying make sure clutch and transmission is in good shape plus the engine as well, it is not necessary not see a good well kept SI but mostly are abused by racing and cornering. Hope this help.

Re: New to the site

There was no k20 si four door for 2005.

the si-r for 2005 has a k20 but that is a hatch.

you probably are looking at a sixth gen 06-11 or a four door civic with a d17a2 whitch would have an si badge but wouldn't have the si-r engine (k20).

06-11 is 8th gen. I know because I owned an 8th gen, 2011 Civc EX-L, right before they re-styled.

I am talking about a 7th gen civic SI. This car precisely:

I know the price is high, but it only has about 100,000K miles. I am still going to go look at it, but we will see.

For just a commuter, I would get any gen Civic.

I personally never liked the styling or engines offered in the 7th gen.

That looks pretty solid and reliable, with fair miles. Good luck with the search..
