New from Canada
Hello,
New guy here. I am going to buy a sixth gen civic in the near future and joined so that I can do my research before I buy.
Some background info on me. I am 24 and have been into cars for a long time. I currently drive a 2004 BMW 330CI. I will be selling this in the near future as my priority's in life change. I intend to buy a inexpensive civic and put the rest of the money towards a down payment on a house. I also have a 1996 ford ranger that I will also be selling. Actually I hope to buy the civic with the money from the sale of my truck and put the money from my BMW towards a house.
As time has gone on I have had my priority's change and my most valuable asset should not be something that lowers in value every year. I also have a 2013 Harley Davidson 883 Iron, that I will not be selling.
More than anything all I am looking for is an inexpensive, reliable car that gets good gas mileage and the civic fits the bill.
I took three years of mechanics in high school so I am pretty experienced in those terms and so far there have been very few things that I haven't been able to take care of on a car so far.
Overall glad to be here and now it is time for me to learn.
Oh here are some pics,

Welcome to the forums! Your Civic definitely won't be outperforming your BMW but at least you have a Harley if you wanna go fast!
Seriously though, Civics are ideal economy cars and will take care of you for a LONG time if you take care of them!

I got some performance plans for the bike too, I'll show them off when parts start to arrive.

Re: New from Canada

man, that bike and BMW are pretty.. In any case, since you have wrenching experience, learning a Civic platform is gonna be like playing with legos. Seriously.
My 2002 civic has seen Vegas dry heat, Southeast US humidity, an upstate New York winter, and 4.5 years of crazy wet/snow conditions of the Seattle area. She's been turbo'd for about a year which lead to premature head gasket failure which was a surprisingly "easy," yet time consuming fix), but still gave me great gas mileage before that (27-29mpg/11.5-12.5kpl at worst). Presumably thanks to the turbo, I developed slight rod knock at 150,000 miles (240,000 km), and I was able to fix it mostly myself (with the assistance of a machine shop). Since then, I've been getting 30-33mpg (13-14kpl) when driving like a rice rocket fiend/city streets, 36-38mpg (15-16kpl) on all highway miles.
stick around, have fun, meet people, and learn a bunch. Civics make great econoboxes, and judging by your mechanical education history, I'm sure you know how to properly maintain a car, so it'll last a while.

I know Honda are great but after his reviews about them I was surprised as to just how much they can take and how long they last. My only problem with cars is I tend to get greedy with power. However I am hoping I can let that addiction thrive on the bike.

Haha. If I were to turbo again, I'd do it 100% properly, and I'd make sure it'd be a fairly reliable DD. I went with a used kit (that had a problem with the wastegate actuator on the snail, so I was limited to 2.5 psi) and shitty piggyback tuning, but I still made 150whp (from a stock 110whp) and 36mpg (~15kpl) when I didn't abuse the boost. I'm n/a now with a stage 1 cam, and she's still a fun, though not as fast, DD.
Really, when it comes to Hondas, you'll get the most "bang for your buck" with suspension mods. May not be super fast in a straight line, but you can sure as hell turn faster than the other guy.. lol
