Hiya! New girl here
Hello.(: My name is Ashley, and I have a 95 honda civic. I'll be honest here, I do not know much about cars, so pleasee be patient with me. But I am here to try to pick up on some things and learn more about cars in general. My car does have alot of problems that I plan on trying to fix by myself (with some advice or help) because I do not have money to take it to a shop at the moment.

There simply is no power assist until the engine runs.
Steering and brakes still work, it just takes a whole lot more effort without the engine running.

Welcome!
When I first joined up, I knew how to change my oil, and that's it. Last year I rebuilt my engine, and last month I fixed my front passenger side following an accident. Stick around and be proactive on the forum and you'll definitely get your full of mechanical know-how

The key won't turn either, I've tried pushing the on the brakes as hard as I could, turning the wheel as hard as I can, I've had other people try. nothing seems to work =/ I've also tried reaching up by the brakeswitch to loosen a washer, because my sister who owned it before me told me to, but I couldn't find any kind of washer up there

Ok so when was the last time this car actually ran?
Is the key correct for the ignition lock?
I've also tried reaching up by the brakeswitch to loosen a washer, because my sister who owned it before me told me to, but I couldn't find any kind of washer up there
Oh damn, I'm already trying to diagnose the dang thing LOL
Why did your sister get rid of this car?

Re: Hiya! New girl here
A few words of advice:
1) Don't be afraid to crack in to a project. You may never have done it before, but if you have resources and/or guides, go for it. I mean, don't go in blind expecting a perfect outcome, but go in educated about what you want to do with a general idea of how to do it. If you keep psyching yourself out, you're prolly gonna discourage yourself from doing it.
2) Do things right the first time. Pay more for the quality part, or at least research the brands you want to buy. That doesn't necessarily mean pay top price for everything. Try and find a deal when you can. If it's a used part, know what condition it's in, or what kinda problems that specific component may be prone to.
3) Don't be afraid to ask questions. If you search and can't find the answer you're looking for, post up and ask. People seem to be afraid to post a question for fear of being dealt "SEARCH NOOB." If you post a thread, state what you've found, and express how it didn't quite help you, or it wasn't clear enough. Also, if a thread is hella old (and hasn't been responded to in a long time), don't direct your question at the OP. You're probably not gonna get anything out of it.
4) If you decide to mod your car to suit you, ask yourself what you want first. Chances are, many people might not have the same tastes as you, and you'll likely get discouraged from doing whatever it is that you wanted.
5) If you ask a legitimate question, and you get a LOT of responses that are exactly the opposite you wanted to hear, there's probably a reason why. I can't count the amount of times I've given advice only to wonder, "why the f*** did you ask for help in the first place if you're just gonna do it your way?"
I'll get off my soapbox now. I hope nothing I said scares you away. lol. In any case, get your hands dirty; have fun with it.
