Thinking about buying a civic. Here for advice
Thinking about buying a civic. Here for advice
Hello all, my name is Dustin. I grew up a Dodge guy and have owned many cars to prove it. I currently own a Dodge Charger Daytona that uses up most of my money.
Why am I here then? Cause my beater Dodge Neon is showing its age... And its time for a new daily. I need something thats cheap, reliable, and it'd be a plus if it was a bit of fun. Using Top Gear style logic that leads me into something Japanese. So here I am. Looking for advice.
I guess lets start with the basics. It'd be nice to get a civic coupe. I'm thinking of spending about 2k for a purchase price. As long as I can get something solid, and its a good car, I wouldnt mind keeping it for a while and down the road I'm sure I might spend a few bucks on it.
So I have seen some cars in my price range that seem to be around 98-99ish which looks to be whats called the 6th generation according to the index.
So Honda experts, teach a moparguy some things he needs to know. Thanks in advance for any and all help.
PS- Im testing the forum waters of other cars before I make a purchase. Hoping that I can feel a part of another community like I have found in my other car.

get a 5th or 6th gen civic. those are arguably the most reliable, have better suspension, and have the LARGEST aftermarket support of any civics.

If you can find a good 6th gen for 2k, go for it. The EX trim will have a little bit more power and lower gears, but generally get the same or close to the same mpg. A 7th gen is a bit roomier, but they blow head gaskets regularly and cost a fortune to properly modify.

You may be so used to having the Chrysler products in the shop, you will have no idea where to spend all the money you save.
Example: Hondas don't need a complete front suspension overhaul every 30k like half of the Mopar products do.
