New guy wants 600+ hp
New guy wants 600+ hp
Hi, I'm new. I don't own a civic, I don't even own a Honda, don't worry.....I'm not here to try and abuse you guys. I kind of need some help/advice. I own one of the competitors vehicles, which don't get me wrong, I love my car, I just want more hp. Problems is, even with an aftermarket turbo my car is only doing 325hp. That's on stock internals. Reason I'm here is no one mAkes aftermarket internals for my car so I figured why not an engine swap with a civic since tons of companies make aftermarket parts for it. Sooooooo anyone have any clue how to get 600whp out of these engines? I'm def boosting, but what's a good block, crank, cam, heads, pretty much everything to put in this engine to get it to 600+? Also, I'm thinking about a civic tranny and lsd. The swap itself is going to be about $8k and looking to spend anywhere from $10k-$15 on just an engine minus the turbo. Can you guys help me out?

On a k-series, you can make 600whp on a completely stock engine, but even if you choose to build the block to handle the power more reliably you wouldn't need to alter the block, crank or head.
Re: New guy wants 600+ hp
I know nothing about civics.....Id like the engine to be able to handle enough boost for a few years. I knew a kid who had an 1100hp civic on 45lbs of boost but Only keeps it at 25lbs so he doesn't blow the engine. I want it strong and to last. My car is at 8lbs, any higher and I'm spinning bearings and blowing pistons. So what's a k series? Like I said, I know nothing about civics.

Re: New guy wants 600+ hp
uhn.
a FWD car can handle to about 300-350 WHP. more than that and yer just going to spin wheels, waste gas and tires and all the trans...
if yer asking that, surely yeh do not have the RWD kias... why don't just use that cash to get another car with better platform?
Cars need to turn, not only straights, and it does not increase the size of the manliness in any way...

It's not easy but you can get more then 350 hp out of a FWD car and still maintain traction. It's all in your setup. If you google K-series there is a ton of info on the web about it. It's probably the best platform for that much power besides a B-Series. The K is bigger so if you have the room that would be best.
Re: New guy wants 600+ hp
Originally the plan was to do a rwd conversion and throw in a 3.8 v6 genny engine all for 20k but my gf decided she wants to get pregnant =\ so this is the cheaper way. The LSD I def wants cause with 325hp now I'm spinning one wheel on take offs. The 600hp is basically for going straight anyways. I just want straight engine, some engine bay shaving with wire tucks. This is more of a show car/ef around on the street. So just a k series with a turbo will do?

Re: New guy wants 600+ hp
Depends. Any good k-series block will hold 600whp for awhile, but how long awhile is somewhat luck of the draw. I would order a built k-series block ($2500), put a k20a2 head on it ($600), bolt it up to a Type-R trans with OEM LSD and wicked ratios ($1400), then boost is with a full race kit ($5000) and tune it on k-pro ($1000). Those are approximate prices of course, it sounds like your familiar with tuning in general, so you know there will be lots of little things that add up to an extra couple thousand on top of the big stuff.

Ahhhh that's what I was looking for!!! Thanks guys, I appreciate it!! Lets keep this between ourselves. Don't want to let the Kia guys now I've crossed over to the dark side and plan on running JDM in my car!
if companies made parts for this car I would be set. Most of the stuff in my car is one ofs, so it gets expensive, as im sure you guys know. This is gonna be a great winter project. I appreciate all the help guys. I'll check back when I get started. AnyOne know any good websites to get this stuff, and what brands are the best?

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Limo tint the windows.......Cut out and stuff another complete 600+HP drivetrain into the rear of the car! SHHhhhhh, it's a secret!
Well, as long as we're dreaming here....
A guy I worked for a number of years ago did just this to an old Caddy Eldo. 2 500cid Caddy engines, 2 gas pedals, 4 wheel go would smoke all 4 tires at once, stock wheelbase, stock hubcaps. He wanted to take it to the drag strip and run it in the stock bracket.

Charm city tuning has good deals on assembled blocks I believe and they stock or can get just about everything else you need.
I'm curious what you plan on using for axles, I doubt stock k-series axles are going to spline to kia knuckles..
