What's goin on from FL!
Hey whats up y'all, I'm Mike, aka Snow Hawk. I figured I'd join this forum because im soon buying a civic eg, and i would love to put some money into it, and beast it out. Problem is, I don't know how to go about it. Here's some specs on the car:
YEAR: 1992
CAR: Civic Hatchback EG
MILES: body; 140k, engine; 100k
CONDITION: exterior is primed for paint, so probably about a 7/10 for being primed.. interior needs a bit of work, so maybe a 6/10 or so.
COLOR; primed, with white rims, and not sure about what kinda body kit.
INFO: it has a d16 jdm sohc with short ram intake, 4-1 headers with magnaflow exhaust, stage 2 clutch, coil-overs, brand new distributor n cap n rotory button, new plugs n wires, new starter n belts.
COST: he wants 2.8k for it
MY BUDGET: probably about 5k for now. gotta save up more, but thats what it is for now, so probably around 2k when I buy it.
I want to use it as sort of a project car, but in a way, I need it road ready as often as possible. Just here to learn more about civics, and see what I can do to it! Much love from FL.
- Mike
Let me know what y'all think, and thank you for the help in advance!

Dang, that bad huh? just curious, what makes it so bad? not to question your knowledge or anything, just curious so I don't make that mistake with another car as well.. i found another one thats 5k, but it needs a bit of work, but it has a few things under the hood as well as exterior.

Re: What's goin on from FL!
The warning signs are endless..
In the description you've given, there are no actual brand names aside from the magnaflow exhaust, which in itself is a mid-level brand at best. When a person has spent money on quality parts they make sure to list those brand names in the sale ad, and if it's not a brand name, it's from ebay and therefore worthless.
It's swapped, the vast majority of swaps are done in an amatures garage or backyard, those people generally lack both the experience and initiative to do a good job at such a complicated job. Lots of people who buy amature swaps find out post-purchase that the wiring is a complete mess and a huge project to fix.
It's primed for paint, but not actually painted. I don't even know where to start with this, but I'll give it a shot. The person primed it, but didn't paint it. They were probably too cheap to pay someone, didn't know how and didn't have the initiative to learn how to paint the car properly. I doubt the primer is even salvageable.
Stage 2 clutch. Ricers do this all the time, they think that buying a stage 2, 3, 4 clutch will somehow make the car faster. It won't, it'll just make the car a bitch to shift, the correct choice would be an OEM equivalent since that's all the power warrants.
You will very rarely see a body kit on a civic that has a mature owner, generally speaking it's kids who just finished watching fast and the furious who buy them.
I could go on..
Your best bet is to buy a completely stock car or one with very minimal, but high quality, modifications. You want to spend your money on building a car, not fixing another persons mistakes, which is all you'll be doing if you buy something like that.
Good luck, be sure to post any future cars if you don't go through with this sale, I'd be happy to give my opinion.
