I don't have a civic, but....
... my wife does. I joined up because I might have to ask a few questions. Her car has held up pretty well, but I want to make it last even longer.
It's a 2000 EX Auto bought brand new 7 years ago and has about 114k miles on it. You have to turn off the AC to get up a hill in it, but it's been very dependable, easy on gas, and it's held its value much better than other cars in this segment. Other than some idle trouble, it's never had any issues (never even thrown up a check engine light).
I'm not interested in modding this car (other than the dismal lighting) -- just keeping it in good shape for years to come.

keep up on the maintenance. maybe try running some lubecontrol.com products through the oil and gas to clean things up.

The maintenance has been done religiously on this car. Once in a while I give it an enema of Marvel Mystery Oil a few miles before an oil change. My only complaint is the miserable stock lighting. I didn't realize how bad it was until I had to drive it while my own car was up on jack stands.
