Hello from Ohio

Hello there. I am not currently a Civic owner, but I will be soon. I am in the market for one, and I've come to this forum for advice. You can call me mujo, I don't know much about cars, but I am willing to learn.

I'm not sure if I can post this here, but I am looking for a 7th Generation Civic, sedan, automatic, under 65k miles. I had a few questions on the VTEC engine, whether or not its worth it. I'm not a tweaker by any means, I am looking for a car to get around town, able to fit a car seat, and that seems to be zippy, because I'm a defensive (crazy) driver.

My friends at work are telling me to get a VTEC in whatever Civic I get, from what I've seen, they're only 12 HP more than the standard 1.7 L engine in the Civics. Will I see any difference in this? I might plan on putting a Cold Air Intake and perhaps a custom Exhaust on in the future. I don't plan on street racing, I don't plan on doing a body kit or anything like that, just a little HP boost is all I need. Will the standard 4 CYL suit my needs?

Thank you to anyone who responds and helps me out

Re: Hello from Ohio

No one should plan on street racing. It causes problems for everyone and especially those of who look like our cars do, but don't

OK, that's out of the way. Go with the VTEC, 12 ponies is a lot more than you think and ditch the automatic. You'll be much happier in the long run. Our motors aren't the most fantastic things out there - stock anyway - and if you do get the modding bug after you intake and exhaust, you'll thank yourself for getting the VTEC (D17A2 Engine) and manual tranny.

Welcome to the site!

Re: Hello from Ohio

Thank you for the welcome.

The main reason I want to go automatic, is that I've been driving stick for almost ten years and am quite sick of it I just moved into the city, and its easier (I'm lazy) on me to go auto. Also, I plan on having kids soon and the automatic will just make it easier
