A little about me...
A little about me...
Hi all,
My name is Mac
I am now here because I bought a 7th gen Civic (Magnesium '04 EX Coupe) in August '05, and stumbled in here from a google search soon after
I am in my early 30s, I live in Seattle, but have traveled all over and lived in many other places as well. I work in Engineering for a large aerospace company (guess) and enjoy spending free time kicking back with my girlfriend or tinkering with my cars
I have a LONG history with Hondas, although this Civic is by far the newest one I've ever owned. I got my first Honda in high school, a 2nd (!) gen '81 Civic hatchback and went to work tweaking it out like mad. This was in the late '80s! Come to think of it, most of the Hondas I've owned over the years may in fact be older than half the people in this forum! I never thought I would end up being the "old fart" in a forum but hey it's all good
My first Civic was bling and rice before "bling" and "rice" existed (I'll spare the details but just picture it - on a white '81 Civic!) I quickly got that out of my system though, and ever since, I've found that I much more prefer the 'sleeper' approach.
I tend to keep my cars looking as close to stock as practical, with maybe simple cosmetic refinements here and there, slightly lowered, slightly wider tires, tint the windows, but keep the car overall simple, elegant, understated and CLEAN. If I do go for a mod, it's usually going to be about go and very little about show.
I do still remember all the wild gadgets and blinking lights I used to go crazy over though, so I'll never diss a freaky body kit or "JDM" light show on wheels, even if that's not what I'm into. My feeling is, it's all about what makes YOU happy, so there's no wrong way to do it as long as you're happy with your own.
The quick history, in my life I've owned:
1 '79 Civic hatchback
3 '81 Civic hatchbacks
2 '82(?) Civic sedans
1 '79 Accord hatchback (right-hand drive!)
2 '81 Accord hatchbacks
2 '81 Accord sedans
1 '84 Honda V65 Sabre 1100 cafe bike
(my personal favorite-) 1 dark blue '81 Prelude
and until now, the "newest old Honda", 1 dark grey '86 Integra 4 door
Now imagine going from all that into a 2004 Civic EX Coupe!
So yeah, this is my first "New" Honda and I'm really enjoying it so far. Gonna keep it simple, elegant, clean, no kits, no JDM, no spoilers, just nice dark tint on the glass, maybe KYBs or Konis and an Eibach Prokit, maybe RSX rear sway, maybe some minor engine/performance mods, but nothing too hardcore, I like it more or less the way it is.
Apart from my ongoing lust for old (and now new I guess) Hondas, I am primarily an
Italian car buff. I've owned several old Italian sports cars over the years as well, and tend to focus more of my tinker-time on those.
So far I've been enjoying this forum and the information and people here. I look forward to reading and contributing more over time
Peace!

Thanks guys, I appreciate the warm welcome - and yes, OLD HONDAS DO ROCK!
Matter of fact, I have often felt a little bit sad when I look around at how many teenagers are rollin in new Hondas, thinking what a pity it is that they will never know (the way I have) all those 1st and 2nd gen cars that made Honda as great as it is today...

Nothing made me happier than rolling up to a stop light in my '81 Prelude and having some dudes in a slammed pimped out blinged up brand new Honda looking all crazy at me, giving me the thumbs up, trying to figure out exactly how damn old my car actually was!
(I do have to admit though, there may be more to this "new Honda" thing than I thought - this EX is really starting to grow on me
)

Dave, I don't know where Allyn is but according to Google it's a tiny town down by Gig Harbor which is sort of west of Tacoma, not really anywhere near Bellevue
I do know where Bellevue is though, my girlfriend lives there!
