Spoiler light

Hello Nation,
I have recently installed a genuine original honda spoiler for 02 civic coupe (2nd hand) and unfortunately the light is not working with my current wiring setup. All the connections are connected to the light but I feel as my wiring situation is the reason why it is not working. I have the black t-tapped into the right brake light's ground wire and the white I believe into the brake wire (right brake light as well)

Im sure thats why its not working as you can imagine. How is it supposed to be wired? Anyone have a picture? There was a green connector originally but I chopped that off as I had no idea where that was supposed to go.

Thanks!!

Re: Spoiler light

Mine is wired to my 3rd (center) brake light. You can always try connecting the wires directly to a power source (like a battery) to see if it works. That way you can at least eliminate one possibility.

Re: Spoiler light

LEDs are polarity sensitive. Try switching the two wires around.

For the 3rd brake light wires to have a electricity connection there has to be a bulb connected, correct?

If I were to strip the 2 wires from the spoiler to another wire to connect it to the 3rd brake light wires, it would not work unless there was a working bulb connected in the slot of the the connector right? So then I would have 4 brake lights Or is there still an electricity connection when there is no bulb connected in the slot?

Thx!!

Re: Spoiler light

With the spoiler kit there is an adaptor that allows you to disconnect the connector leading to factory 3rd light in back deck, then couple that connector to the wiring going to the spoiler LEDs.

I have seen folks that have all 4 brake lights before on occasion.

Wire them in parallel circuit. (observe polarity to spoiler LEDs)

Electricity does not care if there is a light bulb in the socket.

The bulb does not create electricity.

I think OP was referring to continuity.

OP there will be a break in continuity if the bulb is disconnected.

When installing an accessory spoiler:
When a spoiler light is wired to the center brake light in the rear window, we remove connector from the bulb in the center light socket OR remove the bulb. The original bulb is no longer needed, does not have to be connected.

Thanks for all the responses guys.
I am going to wire it from the spoiler wires to the 3rd brake light wires (strip/solder). By parallel circuit, do you mean the wires should be the other way around? Like white to black, black to white? This should work, correct?
Thanks guys!!

Not always..and certainly not like you wrote here.

...But if it is truly a Honda unit then the wire colors should match up. Black to black and wht/blk to wht/blk

Twist and tape wires together and make sure it works BEFORE you try to solder and make it permanent.

If you have an original Honda accessory spoiler, didn't it come with the short harness that plugs right in to the center brake light connector?
