Does the door switch operate more then one system?
The 2001 CRV door switch will tell the door is ajar on the dash but will not operate the overhead light. Light works with manual switch and switch is in proper position for the door to make it work. What should I look for? Could there be two wires and one is broken in door jam boot? Thanks. No manual but am studying my 2006 Civic and 2005 CRV manuals

01 CRV drivers door jamb switch circuit goes through the "integrated control unit" (MICU or multiplex unit) before joining the wire from the other 3 door switches.
Does it come on when any other doors are opened?

I'd pull the doom (dome) light off the roof and test at the wiring connection. Do you get a ground on the green/red wire when any of the doors open?
If yes, then it's a dome switch problem as you mentioned.
If no, then you have more investigatin' to do!
Here's a clue: All the door jamb switch circuits pass through the power lock control unit....inside the drivers door....before they reach the dome light on the roof.....
And the 1st gen CRVs have the same problem with wires breaking off in the door jamb harness that the 6th gen Civics have.

Obviously as usual, I'm in over my head. Sorry I got you involved in this. Crazy complicated cars nowadays. From my 06 manual that has a 3 way sliding switch and this car does also, since this car is a HRV (not CRV) I was just trying to get them to start at switch. So I told them.....
When you say it's not the switch, does this mean you have had it apart? My thought is it more chance of the mechanical moving switch the the electronics. One of the answers to this similar problem on a Honda was this sliding 3 position switch . It should be easy to drop the light out and unplug the connection. The multiplex unit is a very complex digital unit that reduces wiring by sharing systems. Think I would leave that alone to the simple stuff is checked. The simple 3 way sliding switch should have three connections. Probably labeled 2 (incoming power from the 7.5 amp fuse 22 in the under hood fuse box which should be good since you say it works in position 1 (power through bulb going straight to a hard wired ground) The position 3 is the one that power comes through bulb and goes to multiplex for a ground. If the connections on the switch are labeled, unplugged switch with your meter on buzzer or 1x. Hook a lead to 2. Then check the other 3 while sliding switch. Only 1 should show no reading if the switch is working. Bet yours has two.
