Trunk light not working

So my trunk light isn't working. I put the bulb from the license plate in the trunk and it wouldn't light (tried inserting it the opposite way as well and tried the second light).

I thought maybe it could be a fuse. But I think it uses the same fuse as third brake light. The third brake light (located in the rear deck) doesn't work when it's plugged in. But the spoiler brake light works when plugged in.

The license plate lights work obviously.

Any idea what the issue could be? Maybe something to do with the latch? or wiring. or maybe still a fuse..?

If the car is on and the trunk open...do you get the red open indicator on dash ?

What year ??

Re: Trunk light not working

Sorry I forgot to mention year and model. It's a 2002 EX coupe.

No, since I got the car a few months ago there has been no light on the dash. Is there supposed to be?

Re: Trunk light not working

The CHMSL (third brake light) shouldn't light up if you have a spoiler light. You may have a sticky/worn trunk latch. Move the little "tooth" in the latch in the trunk with a car key or screwdriver. The light should come on.

The red light on the dash will only come on with the engine on and trunk open.

Re: Trunk light not working

Got it working. Thanks guys.

I ended up just playing with the latch. After figuring out how it worked I was eventually able to get it working. Now the trunk light turns on as well as the dash light when it is open.
