Instrument Panel lights refusing to dim or light. ODD...speaker issue on top of this
Hi Civic geniuses (geniui?),
I have had a 2002 Civic LX Coupe for almost a year, and ever since I purchased it it's had 2 annoying flaws that are finally forcing me to take action.
1. When my lights on at night, the dash/instrument panel lighting does not change brightness when rotating the dimmer dial, except for the light directly behind the digital odometer display. To emphasize, only the little rectangular odometer display itself changes brightness, NOT the speedometer, fuel gauge, radio or climate control gauges. Also, the instrument panel cluster seems to be stuck fairly bright, whereas the the radio and climate controls are very dim.
2. I post this next flaw because I realize it might be related to (1.) and it's possibly even more annoying to me. The rear speakers are totally dead, and have been that way since the purchase. I'm not sure what is causing it yet, but I did take out the radio assembly today to check to see if the wiring harness was connected properly, and it does seem like that was plugged in right. The speakers' wiring harnesses are also plugged in snugly. I'm going to do some more checking in on this soon to see if I can find the cause..any help is appreciated though.
Any idea if these 2 issues might possibly be related? I'm still making my way through the Haynes repair manual to see if I can glean anything else useful.
Any help on either or both of these issues would be friggin' nice.
Thanks

may be a loose speaker wire at the speaker. test that first. as for the lights, sounds like you have a dimmer switch problem that may require getting a new gauge cluster.

I actually did check out the wire harnesses at the rear speakers, and they both seemed to be plugged in tightly. Maybe I'll check out the wires leading into the harness to confirm they're all intact. If one speaker was loose, the other should still operate, right, as they're on separate circuits?
Thanks

yeah all other speakers should work. they each have separate wires from the deck. ive had problems before with the actual connector plug, when i jiggled it they would come and go, so finally i ended up just cutting off the harness and putting the wires straight to the speaker terminals.
