H.I.D Question

Can a single beam hid kit be used in a 2001 civic sedan?Would there be any problems when switching on hi-beam,flashing etc?At present car comes with dual filament H4 bulbs...got the wrong kit by mistake

Re: H.I.D Question

i have a single beam hid kit installed in my 02 civic with no problems. basically, your current h4 bulb has 2 filaments. one is nighttime headlights, the other one is daytime running lights and highbeams. with the single beam kit you would only get your night time headlights. so you would have no daytime running lights and no highbeams. so during the day, your lights would appear off, and when you tried to turn your highbeams on, your lights would shut off so you wouldnt be able to flash your highbeams at anyone.

the rest of your lights wouldnt be affected. one turn of your light switch would still turn your signals and parking lights on without your daytime running lights, the 2nd turn would turn on your headlights, and if you tried your highbeams, your headlights would again shut off but your signals and parking lights would remain on.

no, there's no problem. just like untuned said though, you won't have high beams. if you have DRL's, they won't work either. the US civics didn't come with DRLs back then as my 02 doesn't have them. just make sure you buy a relay harness with the kit. the stock wiring isn't designed to handle the high current that the HID's pull during startup.

heres how i wired my hids up. pretty simple. they stay on in both lo and hi beam mode in case you bump the switch.

gearbox hit the nail on the head. that's how i have mine. if i go to high beam or do flash to pass, both high and low beams come on for me (i have TYC headlights)

Re: H.I.D Question

The diagram is straight forward. My question is this, the oem headlight wire to be used as a positive trigger, going from the diagram.Seems to me i'd have to use the H4 connecting under the hood.Am i correct?if so do i use the low or the high beam wire from the H4 connector and how come i'll only have to use the wire from one side and not both?

Re: H.I.D Question

its only a trigger wire, not a power source. power comes directly from battery using the beefy harness wires. H4 connector is the one that plugs to your halogen bulb. depending on the side, it will either be a red wire or a red/yel wire. you want that wire because it stays hot in both lo and hi beam modes.

Re: H.I.D Question

our cars are ground switched. so like gearbox said, you have one common positive wire and the negative is what changes based on high or low beam.

Re: H.I.D Question

Attatch photo is the contents of my h.i.d kit...no harness that goes to the battery etc.Shouldn't there be more to this kit?I've tried hooking them up to see if they work and they did,but on my test switching on hi beam turns them off. They are 3 wires on my h4 connector red and yellow, red and blue, red and white.Going from the connections on the h.i.d kit,do i still need to use a relay?if so do i use one for both or 1 for each side?Comments/help needed and welcome.

you'd have to buy a relay harness seperate. most HID kit's don't come with them. something like this would work
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=380059046836
this one might be better with seperate relays and an H4 connector.

that's right. as gearbox said before, you only use the red/yel wire for the positive and you ground the ballast seperate. if you use the low beam ground off the headlight connector, it drops out when you turn the high beams on. if you buy a relay harness and hook it up exactly as gearbox's diagram shows, it will work.

oh, and you can cut off that rubber boot with the 4 wires going through it. it's useless and makes connections more difficult. just don't cut any wires.

Re: H.I.D Question

Ok h.i.d's were working fine no problems. Now when i turn them on after about 10 minutes or so one of them start to flicker for a couple of seconds then go off.So i thought it was the relay,so i hook up the faulty one directly to the battery and same thing happens while the other side remains working. Is it the ballast or buld?Didn't get a chance to switch ballast from the working one to eliminate bulbs or ballast. Is there anything i'm over looking?

I have this problem too where the HIDs go off when I hit the brights. They're plenty bright without the brights, but I like to be able to flick my lights at ppl if needed. Could I fix this just by grounding the ground wire on the HID harness to the chassis somewhere or would that not work? I don't want to buy a relay harness if I don't have to.

you have to have a bi-xenon setup first if you have H4's. do you know if you have that? it will either have a xenon and halogen bulb in the same fixture, or it will have 2 xenons (thus you'd have 4 ballasts). either setup will cost more than a basic xenon kit. if you don't have bi-xenon H4's then there's nothing you can do.

Re: H.I.D Question

I've got the kit that has one HID and one halogen bulb. Not sure what that is called, but yea there are two bulbs in one fixture. I figured they would hook up so the HID comes on as the normal lights and when hitting the brights the halogen would provide some supplementary light while the HID bulb stayed on.

Right now when I hit the brights the HID goes off and the halogen comes on. I want them both to be on when the brights are on.

Re: H.I.D Question

No just the wires that came in the kit, no relay. Is that what I need to make it work with both? If so, where do I get one?

Re: H.I.D Question

yep. only way. your stock wires can't handle the current to run both at the same time as there's only 1 positive wire. you can check on ebay, but i doubt anyone's going to have a harness that will do what you want. that's why i built my own. all the information to do it is at www.hidplanet.com
