Butyl Rubber window sealer
interesting...if i ever need to seal it back up ill give that a try. never thought of that. im hoping the silicone i used will soften with heat if i ever need to pull it apart again

yea the rear of mine is open (no caps over hi beam holes) and havnt had any probs yet. i meant i didnt get a good seal bw the lens and the plastic and got a fair amount of water in one night during a storm

just take your time and do it right. i took a good two months to do mine slowly.

Thanks...I will definitely take my time on my retro...

its funny that both of you left your back door open..

I think I want to seal my back tho....

Butyl Rubber window sealer at Auto Zone or Advance Auto sounds like a good idea as well...

Re: 01 Sedan with e39 HID

the 81522+ will appear more yellowish/white than the 85122's. especially if the 85122's were burned in (200+ hours). the 85122's will color shift where the 85122+'s don't. i have the 85122+'s myself and even after 6 months, they haven't colorshifted at all. that blueish tint you see on OEM HID's is from the bulbs that have colorshifted.

the 250 degrees we use to open them up doesn't really do much to silicone. considering that silicone can be used to make gaskets for car engines without melting, i'd say it won't do much in an oven. now the butyl rubber sealant gets nice and soft even at 200 deg.

yea i dont really mind too much about the color. im more concerned with the output. other than at the cutoff, i dont want much color. hell, if i dont like em, i can sell then and get an other set of 85122

Re: 01 Sedan with e39 HID

same reason i went with the 85122+. with the colorshift, you'll loose some output. the 85122+'s were designed not to colorshift, and therefore, not loose as much output over the whole life of the bulbs.

Re: 01 Sedan with e39 HID

have you ever used 85122 or did you just got for the + from the start? i dont imagine you can tell the difference of 100lm when you already have 3000ish

Re: 01 Sedan with e39 HID

i am currently using the 85122+ and id say the output is great as far as brightness goes, but im really not a fan of the color. its definately more yellow. colorwise id say its like a bright *** halogen.

Re: 01 Sedan with e39 HID

hey all, the 3M butyl rubber that i used was called 3M Window Weld. it's great stuff for putting the housings back together. pretty cheap too. a $10 box would probably do 10-15 PAIRS of headlights easily if not many more.

yeah. i got mine from either autozone or advance auto. can't remember which one. if not, just search the internet. it would be worth ordering one box for the large number of lights you can do with one box.
