What's a relay for and is it needed for foglights
I'm about to install my ebay foglights and the whole wiring harness is pretty confusing and decided to do it my way. I'm going to be using the right most pin of the 4pin connector in the fuse box as it only turns on when the lights are on which provides 14 volts. I ground the lights to the frame and positive directly to a fuse then to the fuse box to that 1 pin. It works perfectly, turns on when I put the parking or headlights on.
Now what I'm wondering is, what is the point of the relay and do I really need it? I checked the voltage level with 1 foglight on and with 2 on and the voltage only dips a bit but still provides about 12v to power both foglights. So since I have enough volts and the fuse in between, can I leave it as is?

The main use of the relay is for the switch, instead of running all the current through the switch in the dash for the lights, a small current sent through the switch in the dash flips the relay on.
It sounds like you're not running a switch, if that's the case, you should be fine. Just make sure it's grounded well and that the fuse can handle the rated current.

Also, btw, did you get eBay fogs? How are the quality on them, did you notice a difference in light on the road? Thanks!

So a relay isn't to protect the system like a fuse right? I don't have an extra switch at all. I've decided to make the fogs go on whenever I have the parking lights switched on.
As for the foglights. I bought them off ebay from trendgear. I can't compare it to OEM quality but the glass is thick and comes with bulbs which surprised me. I haven't installed them yet but when I turned them on and pointed at the floor where they are going to go in, light seems to splatter in many directions instead of one long beam but it does light up the road well. The harness is a joke, there are connectors that have nothing to connect to so you better know how to re-wire it. The switch is ugly and cheap looking. But the fogs look like good quality which to me is the most important.
