This may have already been covered, but, what the hell.

Keep in mind, this is my first DIY.

1) The First Step is pretty self explanatory. Disconnect your battery.

2) Pop your trunk, and crawl on inside. If you look up you'll see the following, if laying on your back in the trunk as I was doing.



The wire you're going to want to grab and follow is the wire that is T'ed off from the other. It goes to the back where the existing trunk light is. The wires are wrapped in one of those plastic things. So get it open and you should see a yellow wire with a blue stripe and a red wire. The yellow wire is power, and the red wire is the ground.

3) Cut the wires at a place nearest towards the end of the light.



4) Gather your cold cathodes and plug them into the transistor(I think is what it's called) Next, cut the switch off of the transistors. You should now have a transistor with red and black wires coming off of it on one end, and the wires to the cathodes coming out of the other.

5) Tap the red wire of the transistor to the yellow wire in the trunk. Next, tap the black wire of the transistor into the red wire of the trunk. Solder, tape, whatever you wanna do. Just make sure it's secure.



6) The Cold Cathodes come with velcro tape, which I used at first. This did NOT hold up well at all. I strongly advise using 3M double sided tape. You can get it at Wal-Mart. Mount your cathodes wherever you would like. I cut off a small strip of 3M and put it on the end of each light. I cut off a larger strip for the transistor and mounted it right up near where the old light used to be.



7) Connect your battery, and stand back and check out your nite brite trunk.



Make sure everything is secure!

nicediy, but i didnt like the lights dimming when my bass hit, so i removed the light in my rear... would this work with a neon?

Connecting the wires were you did; do they only come on when the truck in openned?

Yes. They only come on with the trunk open.

I wanted to do this but I have blue LED bars that I would like to put in the trunk with the same idea they turn on when the trunk opens. I had the LEDs wired in behind the cigarrete lighter but It was difficult to mount them there so i took em out cause they kept falling. I suck at this kinda stuff though. Does anybody have any good websites to learn about this electrical stuff.
