Rep Power: 238 stupid question bout HID
when i purchase the HID kit for my car. What will i use D2R or D2S with stock headlight housing and someone was talking about using a casper shield? is the casper shield for use with the low beam housing? or will i have to use projectors?

Rep Power: 787 well putting hid in stock halogen housing is not good because they werent designed for the different shape and brightness of the hid bulb. the casper shield goes around the bottom part of the bulb holder to reduce glare to traffic, altho it will not solve the problem completely (but its better than none).
now about the bulbs types, d2r is made with shielding for use in hid reflector housing. the d2s bulb are not shielded and are used in hid projector housings where glare isnt as much of an issue. putting d2s in reflector will result in crazy glare. the casper shield helps this a little.

Rep Power: 295 hey gearbox i read ur answer and u didnt answer his question at all...for your car dpending on if its a 01-03 or 04-05 you will have to use a H4 (01-03) or 9006 (04-05) plug and play kit...in the 01-03s there will be a lot more glare than in a 9006 04-05 headlight housing...depending on the kit u get most kits for h4 now offer glare shields already on the bulbs but 9006 is without...but in most 9006 housing (esp 04-05s) there isnt that much glare...
d2s and d2r have no concern with ur stock headlights unless u do a HID projector or reflector retrofit...you can get rebased d2s bulbs or use d2s/d2r with a casper shield...i have a 6000k mcchulloch 9006 plug and play kit for sale for $200 or you can go to www.hidexpert.com and get some oem stuff for more...from my experience mcchulloch is the best kit out there outside of oem equipment

Rep Power: 0 I have D2R bulbs in my Civic. I had to aim my headlights lower than stock to reduce glare. The aftermarket lights, and IMO, projector housings look a little rice to me, although they are functional in that there is much less glare.
I can prob. see three times better (range, front and side) with my HIDs versus stock halogens.

Rep Power: 787 i also had the best light output using rebased d2r in halogen housing, even more than hid projectors i have now, but it is technically cheating because the reflector amplifies already bright hid bulb with a housing designed for halogen. if you were to compare your setup to a real hid reflector setup yours would still be brighter (but also more glare).

Rep Power: 787 really... i've heard that is one of the worst brands. at least 5 members here had bulbs just burn out in less than a year. its on other forums too. good brands you want companies that made hid for oem cars like Catz.

Rep Power: 787 um yea the tyc has a separate hi beam. you just need hid low beam and you can use halogen hi. the hi/lo kit is for stock headlights that only has one place for the bulb.
