it honestly depends on the lens and reflective bowl. If the lens and bowl is crap, then it can be worse for stock. Generally projectors designed for HIDS output the most light.

eh, halogen projector is okay, plenty of light to see, usually outshines other cars on the road. get some +50 bulbs and you'll be fine. 1800 lumen is 1/2 as bright as hid and brighter than stock.

but check out that site, you might be able to find a local retrofitter. But once you have them, you can't go back to halogens. Its literally like night and day.
check this link out. It might give you a better idea in what your going to need to do.

i used to have hid and i went back. in stock housing, sure there was tons of light, but the white makes it harder for my eyes to distinguish objects, and in rain you might as well turn them off it will look the same. at least with the halogen projector i can see the sides of the road.

that must be the worst bulb ever made. i could not find any + version of it. only thing i saw was some LED version but its more for show.

i guess my advice here would be use a stock bulb and get an upgraded wire harness from suvlights.com that should make them a tad brighter.

DO NOT USE LED BULBS AS YOUR LOW BEAMS. LEDs viewing angle or illuminating angle is signficantly less then halogens. You can sand it to try to compensate but its still not the same. The area your going to be able to illuminate at night is going to be less then halogens. I would say this is even borderland dangerous for daily use.
if you want to use halogens, any cheap $20 4300k walmart bulbs will work. There all the same. i had mtecs for 2yrs and they worked fine. $20 shipped on ebay or anything 4300k is fine.

well anything after 4300k is just robbing light. the higher you go the less light and the worse your eye can distinguish objects. we like yellow light best. and i posted those leds cause it looked neat. its a good idea for show fogs since you cant see with em anyway.

okay hope youre not just getting a kit to slap in the projector cause it will look terrible. even in stock housing will be alot of glare and illegal.

uh retro is really the only way to do it right. cops will pull you over with that kind of color. stock hid is white 4300k. and headlights, even non hid have to be white in color.

eh that would be better, but just think about it. you're gonna also have to change your habits a bit. hid need 5 minutes warm up and cool down period, and alot of kits are junky and produce too much glare, so you may get flashed alot. also if a bulb burns, its gonna cost more than halogen to replace.

well the only real way is to "take" one from an oem car and put it on yours. easiest is getting civic projectors and just swapping them with some from audi a4 or something. you can find full hid lens and hardware for this on ebay for around $300-400. or you can do what someone else here did and put some maxima hid reflector into the oem headlight. the point is you need the bulbs AND lens from a factory hid car. just putting hid into civic headlight lens is a disaster. and there is someone here doing retrofits for cheap maybe hook up with him and see what he can do.
