TYC HID (H1) fitment issue
Ok so I just got a set of TYC projector headlights and I am now in the process of buying a HID conversion kit (H1 bulb).
Now I've been reading up and people have been saying that you need to do something to the place where the bulb goes in to make the HID fit ?
Is this true ... and if so can someone explain in detail how it is done ?

you need to shave the hole the bulb goes in to fit the HID bulb.. the cleanest way to do it is to pull apart the headlight and pull the projector assembly out, dremel out the hole, clean it up, put it back together, and AIM THE HEADLIGHT (caps because that's a very important step..). make sure you drill out a little spot for the insulated wire on the outside of the HID bulb. also, the actual bulb may fit, but you wanna bore out a hole big enough for that little.. ceramic (or whatever its made of) piece at the base of the bulb to fit in the hole.. yes, it will be a massive bitch to do.
OR you can do what i did the first time:
have a friend hold the headlight assembly with the lense pointing upwards (back of the assembly facing downward) grab a good vacuum and use either a round file (takes longer, less mess) or a drill/dremel (more mess, more chances of having metal shavings in your headlight assemblies, less time) and keep the vacuum real close. you'll still end up with metal shavings in your headlights, but oh well..
i used to have before/after pics, but i guess I deleted them or something because i cant find them..
they also used to be on a thread on this site, but they disappeared into the abyss that is an red x..

I had that problem... i just wiggled it a bit and it went in... no mod really necessary... i do suggest a retrofit cuz the projectors on the TYCs suck....I wanna put my gfs stock headlights back on but she likes the black housing...

What about McCullough ... I hear people dissin them alot, but my uncle has the newest one (version V ballast) and he hasn't had a problem yet - got them in the summer.
I was thinking about getting them ... about $340 USD.
What you think ?

really .. what suggestions do you have ... there are so many no name brands out there .. It's hard to tell which are good HID conversion kits.
Plus, many of the ones that claim they are phillips or hella ballasts/bulbs are called "retrofit" which means, I have no idea on the quality or geniune nature of the kit.
Can you help

retrofitting projectors into your headlights means you are putting OEM parts from another car and putting them on your car. it does not mean you are buying a kit that will plug and play into your existing headlights.
philips and hella ballasts (LVQ-212/gen 3, respectively) are one and the same. anyone who sells these ballasts with a bulb other than D2S or D2R is a hacked up philips/hella ballast with no existing warranty with the original manufacturer, hella. hella gen 3 ballasts are OE grade and will probably outlast your car if you treat them well.
as far as which kit is the best, there is no "best" kit. a kit will always be a kit and will be inferior to a retrofit. i have no experience with HID kits, so you will have to search for that information on your own. OR, you could try asking our resident kit vendor for a deal.
