I've noticed that the rear license plate lights of the new Lexus GS are not the typical halogen bulb.
They shine an increditble white and look to be LED lights.
I haven't been able to look at one up close or visit a dealership to check.
Can anyone tell me if they are actually LEDs?
If they are, what type of LEDs are they?

can't you buy leds if you really wanted? www.superbrightleds.com just get the 194 5-led bulbs. i got some amber ones in the map lights and its pretty nice. or get brighter bulbs.

you know that would be a very easy diy using luxeon type emitters. prolly the star or maybe one of the others. you can wire in one assembly per side and it will be brighter than the parking lights if you want.

I asked about it because they look so much more brighter and a crisper white than any LED bulb I've seen.

well here is a website that sells different luxeon leds. they are very powerful. I haven't actually ordered or worked with any so you're kind of on your own to choose the right type depending on what it is you want to do. then its just a matter of fitting and wiring them in using the existing circuits.
