HIDs with Halogen projectors?

Im new to this board, and have a question in regards to using an HID kit with aftermarket TYC halogen projectors, has anyone done this? If so, how was the outcome?
Now I know by using the halogen projector, the light output will not display the multicolor flicker, like OEm HID projectors but with HIDs the light output should be mucher greater then the halogen setup and using the halogen projector should be a better setup then the scattered lighting of using an HID system in a reflective housing.
Im in the procees of doing a retrofit in my maxima, and this got me thinking. My wife owns a 2k1 civic with the TYC projectors and I was considering throwing in some HIDs in her headlights and getting rid of the halogens.
So, Im assuming I would just need to purchase and H3 HID kit(is that what the TYC projectors use?) and just swap them out?

When I bought TYCs for my 2003, they used H1 bulbs. The projectors might have been okay if the had a clean lens, but my particular set had what looked like a coating on them that started to flake away. It's hard to describe, but imagine a mostly transparent paint.. then imagine it cracking, and flaking off like as if you tried to paint somthing when it's freezing cold outside.

In short, the lenses were garbage. With those projectors, I think the outout would not be all that great. Maybe you'll have better luck and get some clean lenses.

With good lenses, in H1 projectors you are likely to get better results than with a stock reflector retrofit. (assuming you have a properly rebased bulb). Although it should work, it won't be nearly as good as a OEM xenon projector implant (you already seem to know this).

Thanks for the reply. I hadnt really thought about the halogen projectors lens surface.
I may have to look real good at them.

So your saying an HID H1 bulb will not fit into the current H1 socket thats on the TYC's?

My wife sold her OEM headlights when I installed the TYC's.
Thats was over 4yrs ago.

to be honest with you, getting hids in my tycs is what started on my light craze. my retrofit is going to be done on friday, anyways, heres a few pics of how my tycs with hids looked like

i had a h1 6000k hid kit, it was some weird japanese brand. anyways

warm up

cutoff wasnt that bad for some reason the driver side projector had a better light output and cleaner cutoff

as you can see, weird *** ground pattern
