PlasmaGlow LED
Pics & Vid
Here we go!
I had to attach the pics because I couldn't access my FTP server.
Also there is a very low quality vid clip as well.
Now as you can kinda tell, the tubes need to be about another 2 feet longer to really cover the length between the wheels, but since they aren't made that way .... this is what we got.
I included pics of each of the standard colors the kit will do: Blue, Green, Red, Aqua, Yellow, Purple and White. Also got a pic of the inside thingy that shows ya the color and what the kit is doing. Finally a twilight shot to see how short the projected light is.
If the tubes were longer I'd give it a solid 10, but alas, it's gonna get an 5.
Looks better in person though, if you are forgiving.

This is from my old streetglow gold series neon kit. The tubes are hidden and some parts are actually covered up, but it's still really bright. On a dark enough night, the glow from the ground would reflect off the bottom of the mirrors. How does the led kit compare?
yea as i said, if the tubes were about 2 feet longer and ran from bascially tire to tire, the coverage would be fine. but for the most part, the light is just right below the 50" span of the tube. i had a friend who had this idea, he never did it, i just might. but i'm considering adding a neon set under the car as well. hell maybe i should just buy 7 sets and fill the underside of the car with neon tubes. lmao.
my other thought is to buy a second LED kit, use the longer tubes from that one for the front/back and then the smaller tubes to add to the sides. that would give full coverage, coupled with the wheel well kit would give a complete glow.
my other beef with this set is the LED's themselves. on the display unit the color indicatin led is a single LED that can produce the 7 colors. now inside the tub, are sets of 3 LEDs, Red, Green, Blue spaced about 5" apart. So like when ya got it on green, only 1 in 3 LEDs are on. They should have used the same type inside the tubes for more light production.
i'd like to see pics of the single color kit the starter of the thread installed. but regardless, if ya see it in person it is better. and a lot of fun to play with the colors, movement, speed, etc etc.

Here is a pic I just took in the cluttered garage. As ya can see, light it right under the tubes, no where else.
The more I look at the kit, it's gonna have to be offset by something else so it looks better.

Hmm yea it's not bright enough then. I already got strobes and was really disappointed how just the parking light outshines em at night. You know there are those led APC accent lights that come 8 in a pack and are already prewired. Those things were really bright. I put two single leds under each seat and it's really bright. Maybe those would be good for coverage but they're only one color.
My single color LED is very similar to your multi color, the light is bright but it is very focused and has that gap where there is no light by the wheels. I can just tell form the pic that Gearbox's neons are brighter. If your still wondering, i mounted my control box in the very top left corner of my engine bay in a nice lil crevice that i found, and that stupid strip thing that shows what is going on outside is just dangling by my trunk/gas cap opener, still havent found a good place for that yet. Ill try to snap a couple decent shots and post them up.
Varad has a good LED kit from what i hear, i probably should have gotten it instead. It seems to have more LED's that arent so spread out, but im sure its basically the same. They also have a multi color kit. If anyone owns this kit please give me your 2 cents on how it compares
Well I have some semi-good news. I sent a pic along with a small little note to the company I bought the kit from. Well A they said I was the first to express displeasure with the kit, and B said it is because my car sits too low so the light can't fill out right. (Note: stock civic as far as how low it sits.)
They gave me two options, the Streetglow optx 7 kit, which they say wouldn't do any better, or the better deal: 20% the wheel well kit to fill in the gaps. So I'm gonna opt for the discounted wheel well kit and hope for the best.

I found the specs of the wheel kit "The 2.1 million color wheel well kit comes with 8 bars that have 15 led's in each. They are flexible bars to be molded to the shape of the wheel well."
So I read that to say, yea you can stick them next to the tubes under the car to pick up the slack. I'll just buy another kit in the future when I get some rims, until then no need to light up those tires.

Okay, for the past three days now I’ve been trying to get the freaking wiring for this “plasmaglow 2.1 million color kit” installed. Now I must admit I am very amateur when it comes to mods like this, but I don’t see how wiring a 12V power wire and ground wire could be so damn difficult. Basically what I’ve done was splice the power wire into one of the 12V wires under my dash with the 12V power that goes into the light control box. But no power therefore I just spliced the ground and power wire into my cigarette lighter wires, and still no power
. I’m so confused as to what I'm doing wrong with this wiring, any suggestions???

So, after work this morning i checked the fuse to the cigarette lighter and its fine. it even works when i plug something into it, but i have the switch spliced into the power and ground cables and still no power using the switch. what else should i be doing?
