LED Tails
I've been working on my LED tails, and I dunno whether I like them. They're really close together right now, I think I might try a different LED pattern, something more evenly spaced - farther apart.
Any Ideas?

space them out more....
are those superflux leds? or just regular leds (3mm, 5mm)?
Im tryin too find a site that sells em but, i cant right now
This is what a parabolic reflector looks like though,

LEDs are just a light source and needs optical components to keep light where you want it. If too much light is bleeding off in unwanted directions, more LEDs are needed, cost goes up, power consumption goes up, heat sink gets big and fabrication time increases. OEM normally uses a single parabolic reflector around each LED. This is cheap for them to make because of volume, but creating or reproducing them in the garage is not economically feasable. 5mm diameter LEDs comes with a built in lens that will narrow down the beam. A low angle beam LED can relativly easy be made into a wider angle by simply making shape of the cone flatter. An oval beam can also be made by shaving in one direction. A low powered hand sander with around 150 grit will do this easily. Be careful not to overheat LEDs.

This is what a parabolic reflector looks like though,

btw... SEDANS ARE THE EASIEST TOO COMPLETE A LED RETROFIT!
why?
well, that inner section that you provided is alread "done", the other peice you can literally just plug/play a led cluster in it...

Here's the newest version, these are all just regular T 1 3/4 size. I'd like them more closely spaced, but they're too bright, imo. and the innter tails of the sedan are always on, the outer has the brake lights, so i need to make sure the outer and inner can be distinguished.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean about the sedan tails, i've honestly never seen a coupe tail in person

I think the 5mm LEDs I used are already really narrow beam, enough so that it might be advantageous to flatten the tips down, maybe just in the middle 9 or so LEDs? A quick google and I couldn't seem to find anything on LED reflectors.

Shave the tips down if you want light to be more spread out. You have two choices for the outer brake lights. Either change the pattern to include more leds when the brake is pressed, or get leds that can become brighter. That second one is kinda tricky tho.

Yeah, i've been thinking about how i was going to do that. I've been going through a couple different ways. I was thinking I could just severely limit the current when it's not litThe easier way would just to be to add another couple rows of LEDs that light up, but I'd really like to do some PWM to do it. I don't think the PWM would be too hard, i've played with it before, but it almost just seems like a hassle.

I don't know how much I like them, I like the brightness, all I have in is the inner sections, and they aren't too bright or piercing at all. I'm going to try tackle the outer sections soon, homefully this weekend.
Maybe I'll like them more once i have the brake/turn signal lights in?

I think it hurts that the LEDs are pushed right against the back of the lenses, so they don't get any time to spread. I'll have to work on some other sort of arrangement.
Any idea on where to buy some of these reflectors?
