I'm not sure what gauge I used, but take one of your neon rods with you to Radio Shack and they will tell you what gauge you can use.

18 gauge will do the job, neons do not require much power to work.

I go this for you if you want to use a switch.

P.S. I think I used 18 gauge too. it's enough.

Just se whatever size comes with them (solder, crimp, etc., length on as needed). They require a minimal amount of power. If you're not gonna put them on a switch, there are a couple of options you have as to which wire to tap into. As long as it's a switched source (ie comes on when ignition is engaged). Before I took them out, I tapped into my OEM fog light wiring. I simply used a multimeter and found the wire that came on when the fogs were engaged. That way, they only came on at night (as the fogs were wired to be on only when headlights were fully on, as opposed to the running lights). Another option you have is to tap into the switched wire in the cig lighter/accessory plug. Again, use of a multimeter will help you find that wire. If you're using them in an amp/sub type illumination, you can tap into the remote wire(remote turn on lead to the amp). I also did this when I had an illuminated amp rack. I am switching my color scheme, so I'm also switching lighting as well. I'm going from blue street glow tubes to multiple LED's (replacing footwell lighting, vent lighting, amp illumination, and lower pocket illumination). I'm thinking it will be a total of 20-40 LED's once I get them all in there(depending on the effectiveness of the least amount possible).

Don't do more work than you have to. I just bought a socket switch and neons that have the plug on the end. Took me a few minutes to run the wiring and plug them in.

Well, if you want to plug them in and unplug them every time then by all means. I like using my accessory plug for my radar detector so I can move it frmo car to car, that, and the phone charger.
