osram ballast
Anyone heard of this brand?do they have a good reputation?I searched but only got some threads about osram bulbs. Some guy is selling it, I might be interested:
I wanted to buy the Hella ones because I have heard of them, but looks like someone is gonna take it:
I am not an HID guy so I need some help from you guys. What questions I should ask before buying it. BTW the currency is Canadian dollars. Thanks in advance

One is new and the Hella has less than 10hrs of usage. I am selling because I am retrofitting projectors. Everything you need is included. It's a plug and play so no modification is required. Light output is white with slight purple tint and it is whiter than OEM HID bulbs.
Will fit most Civics/EL or any other car that uses H4 or 9003.
Each kit includes:
2 x Ballasts with integrated ignitor (other kit is Hella)
2 x H4/9003 6000K Shielded D2S bulbs
2 x mounting brackets
2 x Wiring harness
Packed in original box and ready for pick up.
$460
$500 for the Hella
I will install for you for $40.
PM only please.

I have someone coming over to take a look at the Hella tonight. He is most likely picking it up tonight if he likes it.
I still have the other one though. Same exact kit except it uses Osram ballasts.
Let me know.
Thanks.

another pm from him that I just got:
The other kit is the same exact kit, uses same wiring, same 6000k Bulbs, the only difference is the brand of the ballasts. When turned on, it produces same light colour and output. The only difference is the brand name. If you are interested on the other kit, I will be getting that from Calgary sometime this week. It's brand new in a box.
It's a plug and play kit so you DON't need any modification on your current lighting system. All you will need to do is replace your current 10A fuse with a 20A fuse. If you need assistance installing, I can help you out or I can install the whole kit for you for $40.

The hella ballasts are more reliable than the OSRAM ballasts are. I'm not sure how, but somehow OSRAM ended up making a run of ballasts that had a high failure rate and that is most likely the kind you get with this "kit". Hella ballasts however are known for reliability.
The big issue you need to look into is who makes the bulbs??? If they are for sure 6000K and they are not Philips Ultinon bulbs I would not buy them. If it cannot be proved that they are Ultinon bulbs, they are probably knock offs, generally of inferior quality. With the knock offs, you are LUCKY if you get 1 year of service out of them. Most people notice problems within 3-6 months on the generic bulbs. (most of them all seem to be related to the "Vision" company from Korea).
I'd request multiple pictures of the bulbs themselves, and post them here. We can look over them and take an educated guess (if they are rebased) on what kind of bulb they are. If it's uncertain, I'd recommend that you just keep walking and wait until later to buy a kit when somthing better comes along.
-- Also --
Being a bit of a headlight junkie, and a little into electronics.. I'd never install HID ballasts without powering them off of relays, or at the bare minimum, one heavy duty relay. The stock wiring is designed to power a 5A halogen bulb, and these ballasts will draw upwards of 12A on a cold strike. It's not healthy for your electrical system to continually ask for more out of it then it was designed to provide. That bit of information about not needing to alter any wiring in your car I would call FALSE. If you care about the car, and want somthing you will never have to worry about for the life of your vehicle, do it the right way - the first time.

Yeah, I wasn't very eager to buy that HID kit anyways. I guess I better wait for a good kit to come along, meanwhile I guess I will stick with halogens. Thanks a lot A03
