Headlights always on
Headlights always on
I tried to do a search on this but didn't exactly find the answer I was looking for. I want my headlights to come on by themselves all the time, day or night, and turn off when I turn the car off. I have a habit of turning them on all the time so it would be nice if it would just do it itself that way I don't have to remember to turn them off. I wasn't sure if this is basically Daytime Running lights that I want but if it is, then great... how do I do it?
I also searched on that subject but didn't have any luck. I had a volvo like this, a 1986 760 and I could just leave my headlights in the on position all the time and when I turned the car if it would turn the lights off. If somebody can tell me how to do this I would greatly appreciate it! THANKS!

Sounds good to me... I think some1 mentioned that idea awhile ago.. Just that no1 did anything about it, Haha. What it seems that you want would be daytime running lights. The only downside on what u want is that the bulbs life span will be down... If u have aftermarket bulbs they will most likley not even last more then 2 months
nah, I just use OE bulbs. I've been doing this already since I had the car, I just have to turn them on and off all the time which is just annoying. I'm still using the original bulbs that came with the car though and I use my lights constantly and have 30,000 miles.

You really dont want them on during the day right? You just want it so that you dont have to keep turning them on and off?
There is a DIY for making the foglights go on and off when the parking lights are on... so, it def has to do with wiring. Maybe do some wiring straight to the battery perhaps? (not using the whole H4 harness...? but some of it?)
Lets see what other people have to say.. I think it would be a good idea! I think WRX's have that too

nonono.... I use my headlights all the time, day or night. Everytime I start my car I turn on my headlights anyways whether the sun is shining or not. So basically I guess I want daytime running lights.
The way I would like for it to work is this... I used to have a 1986 volvo 760 turbo that would do this and I loved it. I left my headlights in the ON position ALL the time whether the car was on or off. But when the key was in the on position the lights were off. It was some sort of safety to keep you from running your battery down. This way I could turn the headlights off if I wanted to for some reason, but otherwise they would just come on everytime I turned my car on and would turn off when I turned my car off. This way when I turn my car off it doesn't beep at me and I don't have to mess with turning them on and off all the time. make sense? Also if I can make it work this way then I can still turn off my headlights and switch to my parking lights if I want to for some reason at night or whatever. Anyways, if anybody can help, its much appreciated! Thanks!

you cna wire a relay to a power wire so that when you turn on the car, it flips on the relay and turns the headlights on

my dad's toyota tundra has this also. the parking lights are on whenever the truck is on but if you turn the low or high beams on and turn the truck off the lights automatically turn off.

Interesting... My volvo had a clifford security system as well. Maybe thats how it got wired like that. I thought it was the car, but maybe not.

no, this is a thing that has to do with wiring. im sure you could somehow make it do it with an alarm, but you don't have to have one. i'd be willing to bet you could get a daytime running lamp assembly from a car such as an accord, or something that has them, and wire it up and it'd work. you could also, somehowdo it through one of the ignition wires, just have to use a tester. find the wires that are dead before the car is started, then start it, and find one that is hot once the car is started, and make sure it stays hot. that's where you tap the positive wire into. im about 99.9% positive that that would work. you could do this many ways, that would probably be the most cost efficient. i'd go with a daytime running lamp harness myself. only thing is, that you can be ticketed for using daytime running lamps with out actually turning the HL on at night, it isn't as bright. at least thats how the law is here in ga.
Just because you think it is pointless doesn't mean it deserves a lock. It is important to me, and apparently others are interested in this as well. So does anybody have anything HELPFUL to add?
