Can't say for sure but I had a simialar issue with my 98/. try unplugging the 02 sensor on the manifold and then drive it see if it runs any better. It will turn on your engine light just an fyi but it will go out after you plug it back in. If it runs better probably that sensor. Mine mainly did it when it warmed up. good luck

Just locate the primary O2 sensor, then find its wire connector, and unplug it.

Now test drive it like that to see if the problem is gone.

blows some blue smoke after idling for to long as well
How many miles are on this engine?

I guess it's certainly old enough to smoke.

Quitting smoking is tough, just ask any smoker.

Maybe try getting it on the patch?

Not bad, but worn. 300k miles is a lot even for a Honda. Make sure you keep an eye on the fluid levels.

If by chance you are running the original exhaust the catalytic converter may be shot. I had a Sunbird way back in the day and it did the same thing. Converter was clogged and broken down. Replaced and took care of the issue.

Leave the sensor bolted in place. It's only a test at the moment.

Just unplug the wiring connector from the harness so the computer can't use its input.

I did this test too earlier in the fall as I have the same issue, but it's intermittent for me. It ran a bit rougher especially at idle with the O2 sensor disconnected but never saw the hesitation during that test. Then I didn't see hesitation for a whole month and now I just experienced it again once yesterday. Yes the check engine light will come on when you drive around with the O2 sensor disconnected. It didn't turn off on its own when I reconnected it (maybe I didn't drive long enough), but I pulled the BACKUP fuse and that cleared the light (this fuse is in the fuse compartment in engine bay next to battery).

Is this condition intermittent for you or all the time?
