2001 Civic EX Cruise Control Not Working

The cruise control in my 01 Civic Ex stopped working for me a while back and I am finally annoyed enough to try and fix it. It was working fine one day then stopped working the next. The green "cruise" light does not come on when I press the button by my left knee. Since the light does not come on I checked the fuse panels under the dash and in the engine compartment to see if one was marked "cruise" or something, but none are labeled anything close to cruise (see attached photos).

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Re: 2001 Civic EX Cruise Control Not Working

The green "cruise" light does not come on when I press the button by my left knee.
If you mean the light inside the switch, it's just a light bulb that eventually burns out. That alone doesn't make the switch quit working, just make sure the switch is latched in the 'in' position.

If it won't turn on the light in the cluster, then the cruise isn't activating, could be a dozen possibilities.

Coupe or Sedan? They use different cruise systems.
Manual or automatic?

Does the horn work?
Airbag warning light on?
Check engine light on?

Fuses:
Dash box #4, 10
underhood box #7

Thanks for your help.

Yes, the cruise button is pressed in. The light in the dash does not come on when I press it. I was thinking that might be a clue to what might be wrong.

It's a manual trans four door. Horn works. No airbag lights or check engine lights. I checked the fuses you mentioned and all are fine.

Re: 2001 Civic EX Cruise Control Not Working

Stock taillight bulbs, brake and tail lights all work (and work correctly), no LED lights?

Component list:
Main switch
set/cancel/resume switches on steering wheel
Clutch switch
brake pedal switch
Cruise control unit
Engine control unit or VSS signal
cable reel (clockspring)
actuator and cable
and the cruise light on the cluster.

plus a ton of wiring

I'd check brake and clutch switches, maybe one of the little rubber bumpers broke apart and can't push on a switch plunger.

Then I'd get a wiring diagram and voltmeter out and start testing.
Probably can check most individual components electrically from the connector of the cruise control unit..

I know this thread is 6 years old but did anyone try this?

Re: 2001 Civic EX Cruise Control Not Working

I'm having a similar problem.
When I press the cruise control button on the left of the wheel I got a green light.
When I try to set the speed with the switch on the wheel I got no response.
I bought this car used a year ago.
Curise control didn't work the first few times I tried it, then it worked once a month ago but I haven't been able to get it to work since.
Srs light is on
No other issues

Re: 2001 Civic EX Cruise Control Not Working

Cruise control cannot be set:
  • check the main switch
  • check the SET/RESUME/CANCEL switch
  • check the brake pedal position switch and its mounting
  • check the transmission range switch
  • check the cruise control unit inputs
  • check cruise control actuator

Get the code scanned for the SRS code. Chances are it is related to the driver's seat belt buckle switch - common issue.

Can you give me any info on how to check the set/resume /cancel switch?

I scanned with an OBD2 and no fault codes came up.

I have the exact same problem and have the same car but also my key fob doesn't work either which is super annoying because someone broken into my car a few months ago and they got in by taking my whole door handle and lock out of my driver's side door so when I unlock my car I have to go in through my passenger side so it's really annoying

This test works with a multimeter(set/cancel/resume;test is near the end of the video) but make sure you have the multimeter set to the continuity position.
