Re: New System

No circuit city or best buy....wayy over priced. If you are really concerned with sound quality over spl and your budget conscious, your ideal sub would be an alpine type r. Sony is crap (been there done that). Did anyone even ask what type of music you listen to??? That is a more than necessary question! Sealed vs Ported? What type of sub? All depends on the type of music you listen to......Personally, once i went sealed, i decided i will never go back to ported and sacrifice sq over spl.

Don't you think 2 12" might be a little excessive? I have one 12" type x with *only* 500watts going to it and it hits HARD! If i'm listening to any heavy hitting bass song, i have to turn the bass down on EVERYTHING (bass controller, headunit) just to make it listenable.

I have a focal component set up front, a ridiculously large set of JL 6X9's in the back, 1 12" alpine type x, JL audio 300/4, 500/1, and a JL cleansweep with a 5 farad cap. I have absolutely no dimming whatsoever and i have a cheap duralast battery from kragen's.

Re: New System

The 12" I have now supposedly handles 250 watts...but sounds more like 150, which is ok, but not enough for me! I've had both 2 12's and 2 10's before, but have never run enough wattage to em to make em thump right. By "tight" bass, I mean I don't want just pure loudness, and the sub not being able to hit the notes accurately. And by sound quality I don't mean quiet and subtle... I want em' loud! But clean... Thats why i'm aimin' for JL. I got to listen to 2 12" W1s getting about 200 watts a piece the other day, and they sounded glorious . Louder than most of my past systems. I figure a 500 watt amp will do the subs justice.

Exactly. My system is sq all the way but when someone with a cheap setup from circuit city rolls by blaring and rattling the whole street, i can easily just turn up the volume and drown out their system. I find those people exceptionally annoying. Assholes. My setup is running perfectly fine and took me forever to plan. Its perfect for me, my only regret was the price. If i was to do everything over again, i would probably experiment with a 10" sub for a tighter response but i have no problems with my single 12".

At first, I was worried that a single 12" alpine type x with just 500watts wouldn't hit hard enough but I was wrong. With it turned up, everything in my car shakes and my back window flexes.

two different subs running off one amp isnt right, but two subs off two seperate amps tuned with the right box dimensions and amp settings may sound okay, especially if your careful with the gain....

my setup is
alpine 9883hu
alpine mrp-f450 pushing polk/momo components 6.5"
infinity 611a pushing two type-r 10"

its defineatly a SQ setup, but adjusting the bass and sub level makes it louder than i care to use. my seatbelts jump off the seats, my dashboard vibrates, and everything in the cupholders/center console can vibrate to hell

ive had 2 seperate sets of 6.5" speakers, two sets of subs, and 4 different boxes for the two sets of subs

Re: New System

Everyone makes mistakes. My first setup was all sony and it rattled the hell out of my car. I felt like i was driving a paint can shaker. That was with 2 12" in a huge ported box. When i went with a tiny sealed box with an alpine type x that annoying rattling almost completely disappeared. It just vibrates now

Re: New System

Speaking of type X's, i've been looking into em. 1 of em puts out way more power than 2 jl w1s... so, i guess the question is, Alpine or JL?

Re: New System

I ended up getting 2 12" type r's. Unfortunately, the alpine amp I have is gonna give both of the subs a mere 500 watts... which is what 1 of em can handle rms. but, i'm still looking foward to seeing the things bump. They're supposed to arrive late this week. Anybody have experience with type R's? From what i've heard, they're pretty clean subs. I'm thinking that 500 watts of alpine bass will hit pretty nice...
