I am upgrading my head unit from a pioneer premier deh-550mp to a pioneer 5700dvd. My question is are all pioneer head unit wire harnesses the same? It has been awhile since I installed my system. Any help would be appreciated.

Hmmm...that might be the case if they were the same type of head unit like CD/MP3 swapped out with CD/MP3. But not if you are trying to put a DVD head unit in if you had a CD/MP3 in there before. This is because the DVD head unit most likely will have wires in the harness that don't apply to the basic CD/MP3 like (parking brake relay wire, higher amperage fuse for 12V+ wire, etc.). So to answer your question. No, they probably won't be the same, no biggie though since all you have to do is wire up a new harness.
yea im wiring up the new harness right now, nothing too difficult. It is pretty much a straight swap of wiring. However, I want to be able to watch dvds while im driving and pioneer has made an e-brake wire to prohibit me from doing this. I would not watch dvds but it is more for the people in my car. The question is what should I do with the ebrake wire to be able to do this. Thanks, I will be posting pics when Im done.
My Avic-88dvd just came in on friday and Im getting ready to install everything today. Can anyone give me some pointers as to how I am going to get power to the auxillary unit. The Avic-88dvd is a component that adds navigation to pioneer av players. Also, the manual says not to hook up the avic and the av power to the same lead. Therefore, I cant hook the avic up to the wire harness for the stereo so I need to find another way to get power to the avic. Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks
Thats tight, Im really excited about it and yes johnb, I will go with your route of the toggle switch, very nice, btw where do you get a switch like that from. I also have the ipod hook up, the cd-ib100II that allows you to scroll through your ipod's songs on screen as well as the avic-88dvd. Phuviano, if you have any experience with the wiring let me know because I wanna know how you wired up navi if you had it.
Thanks for pointing that out darklegacy. I appreciate your concern. However, I am not doing this to pass the time for me, I would never watch a movie while driving, period...its for my passengers, g/f and her little sis, my friends and my brothers. Just in case a cop sees them, Ill throw the switch but otherwise, I want my passengers to get a great experience.

Sorry bro, I didn't have navigation hooked up when I had it. I did have the toggle switch though. Easy to setup. You can buy a toggle switch from radio shack. I bought a switch with 2 wires attach to it, some don't have wires attached to them, some do. Connect one wire of the toggle switch to the ground wire of the car's harness, and connect the parking brake wire (light green wire) to the other wire on the toggle switch. Just use your discretion when using the DVD up while driving. I'm guilty of doing it, so I'm not going to tell you not to. However, I don't have that a DVD deck no longer, so I don't do it anymore.
btw, make sure you ground both wires on the 5700's harness. It has 2 ground wires, you have to ground both of them or the unit won't work.
Unfortunately, cops and insurance companies probably woudln't see it your way if you were to get into an accident though.. I guess I'm just saying be careful and be smart about it. Even if an accident happens and it's not your fault.. I could see a cop being like, "ohhhh you were watching a movie.. blah blah blah blah" Ever think about external monitors? Like headrests.. visors.. sweet ass fiberglass enclosures so you can put a monitor wherever your heart desires?

The thought of external monitors did cross my mind but Im in a tight budget right now because of these components but I am hoping to conitinue this venture into i.c.e. I probably will wire up the car without a switch for now and then install a switch later.
