CV Axle Install Problems

Hello all my name is j ive lurked the forums for a while as kablinfect but hes not allowed to post so ha.

My problem happened when i attempted to replace my CV axle myself. i have some experiance working on cars so i thought this wouldnt be much of a problem. removing the axle wasntto much of a problem but when i attempt to install it it will only go halfway. so i hammered it in . Test drove it and still heard clicking so asked around and i was told your not suposed to hit it and it should go in easy.

SO not im trying to ease it in and no progress with that. My question is are the spleens suposed to match identically? Mine have four gaps like below and the male inlet has no gaps? plz help me out.

Re: CV Axle Install Problems

I'm viewing from my phone, but I'm assuming you're talking aboethut the axle that goes into the differential? If so, it takes some time to work it in there properly. It took me maybe a good 10 minutes. Make sure that ring is on there good as well. Hammering wasn't a smart idea either. I doubt you ruined anything, but don't do stuff like that to things with threads, teeth, splines, etc.

Re: CV Axle Install Problems

I had the same prob with my 05. The issue was the clip on the end was too big. Maybe try n get a set of different clips(i jus borrowed the old ones but idk if I would reccomend that)
^ but like was said make sure the clip isnt getting caught n maybe try some grease to keep the clip in place and turn the axle as u work it in...may still take a little tappy...but dnt beat on it too much

Yeah, it took me like ten minutes to work mine in too. It took a lot of giggling back and forth.

Red face Re: CV Axle Install Problems

You never reuse the circlips. The old one may be worn and won't hold properly.

X2. Rule of thumb is to never re-use gaskets either. It's just cheap insurance.

I said I wouldnt reccomend it. But if the clips on his r anything like on the cheapo axles I got from advance auto then he might need to pick up other clips was my point.
I believe ur supposed to replace them every time u remove the axles so im sure they got em individually at the dealer.

Re: CV Axle Install Problems

. You make a good point there. Didn't even think of that. You gotta check the part numbers just to make sure they don't eff anything up if you go to Advance.
