According to my dealer there is a known issue witht he seal on the gas cap on the '06 coupe. Once in a while you will get a warning "Check Fuel Cap" that will not go away. You have to take it to the dealer so that they can reset it for you.
The issue has been reported to Honda, but there is currently no resolution.
Just an FYI.
I have had it happen twice. Other than that, I love mine! 2,000 miles as of yesterday.

Re: Gas Cap
The exact same thing is happening to my '06 sedan, but the dealer claims that there is no way to reset this, and that it will just take time of the evap system to run its cycle. Well, I've driven like 5,000 miles since it started flashing, and still nothing .....Grr

Re: Gas Cap
I've seen this issue before on my 2006 EX Civic at 35,000 miles. It went away after attempts to retighten the cap. Now at 40,000 miles, when the temperature outside is 90degC, the issue came back. I rang one of the local Honda dealerships and was advised to replace the fuel cap. I bought a replacement from Autozone made by CST, Inc. for $9.06 (incl tax) and will observe any improvements. Keep you posted.

Re: Gas Cap (fixed)
Replacing the gas cap fixed the problem. Clearly, there is a problem with the original gas cap that Honda wouldn't admit. Cheap to replace. It's now 2010 and problem has gone away since the time I replaced the cap in 2009.

yeah i think the gas cap itself is to blame. and im not sure if honda updated the part yet for the 06+ civic. i was gonna say maybe try an 01-05 gas cap but im not sure if it fits. mine is so tightly sealed i almost need two hands to loosen it lol

Re: Gas Cap
New member. I've searched everywhere, but can't find out anything about removing the "grommet" that holds the fuel cap tether on a Civic - ours is a 2008 model.
I have a new fuel cap (thanks guys) but can't figure out how to attach the new tether to the existing grommet without destroying it.
Thanks.

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Many different designs, but all accomplish the exact same goal and work the same way.
Study how one of these works, then take a small pocket screwdriver to the car and disassemble yours.
