Hey guys
First time posting, been working on cars DIY since I was a child with my dad.
I just did a head gasket on my 2003 Acura EL (same engine as the 1.7l civics). I’m posting on here because I’m hoping to get better results than an Acura page because the 1.7l ELs were only available in Canada.
Anyways after start up I noticed it’s blowing white smoke. I know that it could be residual coolant just burning off in the exhaust, so i let it run for a good 10-15 minutes. Didn’t change.
Im going to take it for a drive and see if it lessens.
I’m hoping I didn’t mess up this job. I checked the head to see if it was warped, it was not. I replaced the water pump, thermostat, intake manifold gaskets, spark plugs, new coolant and oil, new timing belt, head bolts, obviously the head gasket.
Cleaned the carbon off the pistons and the valves while I had the head off, my question is has anybody had this issue where it still blows smoke after 10-15 minutes of idling. I did put some sea foam in the cylinders to help break free some of the carbon build up. Was this a bad mistake? Or is the car still burning some sea foam? There was only a tiny bit of carbon left on 2 of the pistons, I didn’t care for it too much because I’m hoping to sell the car in 2 years after my wedding (I’m in full save mode right now).
Also my gasket kit came with two types of intake manifold gaskets. Did I put the wrong one on? It’s idles great, brought it up to temperature and heat blows hot.
I put a CO detector on my rad and it didn’t change from blue to yellow with the 10 minutes of idling.
I know that it’s probably hard to tell online what it is, but I’m just seeing if I’m jumping to conclusions and if I need to pull the head off again.
I posted the pic of the 2 types of gaskets. I used the top one.
