Most oils already have detergents in them so there's no need to do an additional pre-clean.

Re: Engine cleaner good to use??

My opinion is ...Although using Synthetic Oil & Filter are good to clean an engine, there are circumstances where it may not be enough to do a thorough Job thats where using a Proffesional grade engine flush liquid would come into play and help clean things up Providing your engine has decent oil changes to begin with there are exceptions to using engine flushes to help clean an engine better up from what synthetic oil cant do, for example if You do short distance driving where your engine never really gets up to temp that has an effect on the oil over the long run

wich in-turn could plug up passages or cause Piston rings to bind up, another is extended oil changes that can cause sludge. so there are exceptions to using a pour in cleaner in the oil to further help clean up an engine , and as important is the product Your using as well. not all engine flushes are created equal. i have used this product before and it works Excellent Many good Techs will recommend this Can of "BG 109" engine performance restorer - use both there Proffesional grade - good stuff

Noo.. 1st You add the 109 to your old oil run the engine 1200 rpm for 15 minutes or so. then drain old oil and filter re-fill back up again with fresh oil and new filter using the 2nd can of MOA You use this after to Neutralize any residue left behind from the 109 got it ? the MOA is an Excellent oil additive that can be added there after every other oil change if You choose so... heres one video i found that shows just how well that 109 engine restorer worked on this engine. the other shows how to use both 109 restorer and Moa.

I read the ingredients on those BG products and it says: Holy water blessed by the Pope. Also, it states on the can: Endorsed by God Almighty...

Oh... so let me guess?... You would probably use the typical cheaper over the counter stuff, that You really need a miracle to work on a vehicle, rather than the good stuff like BG

Nope. I drain old oil, change filter and add new oil...never had an issue. Miracles generally don't come in a can (additive, headgasket sealer, etc..).

Snake oil, as long as you change your oil regularly and use a quality oil and filter you'll be fine

have a view of what the BG 109 and the MOA does for Your self i have used both before with impressive results. the MOA is actually a Potent "metal conditioner" great to use on used engines because it smooths out & polishes any rough metal surfaces thats already on the metal of Your engine, that were there from previous wear & tear. - (Miracles do come in a can when its the right one to use) - its Just Science thats all

Re: Engine cleaner good to use??

Oil already has additives in it to clean the engine.

Waste of money in my opinion.

Hell no.
If your engine actually needed something something like that, you have much bigger problems that need dealt with. Like who dumped in the substandard oil , or who let the oil go far too long without changing it.

Read what HONDA says about using products like that
C&P from a 2006 Civic Sedan owners manual, page 192:

Engine Oil Additives
Your vehicle does not require any oil
additives. Additives may adversely
affect the engine or transmission
performance and durability.

Re: Engine cleaner good to use??

i use engine flush right before i disassemble engines for rebuilding or refreshing. i tend to notice this pattern on the crank journals on engines i do this to. IDK what it is, why the flush seems to make this appear, or how long normal use takes to make it disappear, but it polishes off with 2500 grit and a shoelace with jewelers rouge. i've quit doing periodic flushes since i've started seeing this. i have only had one guy identifty the pattern, he said he has seen it it in neglected engines where the oil was not regularly changed and suspected that maybe the cleaner acts in the same way as old oil that has absorbed gasoline in it.

We've seen this chatter pattern on the cam lobes in an engine that had its oil badly diluted with gasoline.
Came in for noise. Cylinder head (complete with camshafts and rockertrain) was replaced.
