Thermostat temps

Hello,

While looking around for a replacement thermostat I noticed that they are available in 170°, 180°, and 195°.

Why the different choices ?

Re: Thermostat temps

Usually companies make you think that running a lower temp thermo is better for the engine and gain performance, but this is not true. Or people try them in the hopes of fixing an overheating issue....

Just stick to oem and let your car run as it should. Here's a link to an article I found online explaining in greater detail.

Re: Thermostat temps

According to both Stant and Gates, the OEM thermostat temp is 170°F. The optional choices are higher at 180°F and 195°F.

The article supplied by GusBuz is about thermostats that have lower than OEM temperatures.

What is the advantage or need for higher temps ?

Re: Thermostat temps

Get an OEM thermostat and call it a day. I got mine on Amazon. Honda has designed the engine to run best at a specific temp, so just stick with OEM. You won’t help anything by going aftermarket, and you could cause problems. If the engine runs too cold, you will have a lot of wear and bad gas mileage. If the engine runs hot, wear will increase and you are more likely to overheat.
