Might I be better off monitoring fluid temps?

I've been thinking about it oil pressure vs. oil temp, and really all I ever use the oil pressure gauge for is to know that when it reads 12 PSI, the oil is fully warmed. So I wonder, with all this beating, wouldn't it make sense to just monitor the oil temp all the time? I mean, the pressure doesn't say much besides, yes the pressure is there... but provided that the pump seals are still intact, which I hope they are for a long time, and the lines are sealed up, which they are because its not leaking... that won't say much. But the temp will depend on the nature and severity of the beating and might serve as a better notice for alarm in the event of a bigger problem. So basically, would it be smarter from a save the engine sooner to monitor the temps rather than the pressure, which the more I think about it, the more it seems pointless to watch the needle go from 12-95 and anywhere in between.

Its probably best to have both set up. THe temp will tell you when your cooking the engine, and preasure will tell you when somthing is blown (Oil line ect..)

also the pressure gauge will tell you if you are uncovering the pick-up under hard cornering. just my 2 cents

I think both might be a good idea. The pressure might warn you of an impending failure before the "now it's too late" light comes on.

However, the temp would most likely give you more info on how the oil itself is holding up. ie: How long it's been at temperature X might give you an idea on how rough you've been on it over time.

If you can find another out-of-the-way place to stuff a gauge, let me know. I don't think an A-pillar setup is my bag, I'd prefer them a little more hidden.

Ryan, you can stuff them in the DIN under the radio. I fortunately/unfortunately have the Honda 6CD changer there, so I can't. I'm trying to find a place to discretely hide a 3rd one.

Do ya REALLY need a glove box? If not, I'd say put them in there. It's easily done, and a nice big open area that can easily be put back to stock for future sale.

Just my $0.02

Yes I need the glove box, its the only place in the car you can hide anything.
You can't read it while you're driving (its hard enough to read them in the lower console.
I'd need to lock the box open if I did that because otherwise it'll flop around.

Hmm...good call with keeping it open....

About hiding stuff....what do you need to hide? If it's something "unmentionable", just keep a LOCKED container somewhere in your car. According to law, the cops MUST have a search warrant to open a "closed container" within the vehicle....unless it's impounded....then that's called a "Custodial Search" and all they do is inventory what's in the car. It could be different where you live, but here in CO (and most everywhere according to the rules of evidence) that's how it is.

However...when you're driving....why would you be looking at the guages? I don't know about YOU, but I look at the TRACK/ROAD! lol The only time I look at the guages, is when I'm stopped (or I see a cop, speed check, lol). I shift from sound/feel, and I just keep up with traffic, so guages mean nothing to me, until I stop.

short of a "heads-up display" (hologram on the windsheild) the A-Pillar is probably the BEST place for guages. IMO

The only reason people think it's ricey, is because kids have 3 pod clusters, with guages that are either IRRELEVANT (they don't race, therefore no need to monitor things) or they are just plain USELESS (boost guage in a N/A car, or the guages are not even connected, lol).

Kids do stupid things.....I don't think what other people do should have ANY bearing on where you put the guages...IMO,

If you wanna be different....just MAKE your own "heads-up display" by mounting a digital read-out on the dash, upside down, flat, and it'll reflect off the glass of the windsheild. (<---all in theory, I've never tried it, lol)

or you could through out $1500 for a stack system and go race car style. that would be sweet but probly not the best for a street car. and as for the a-pillar i think our stock ones are wide and get in the way of the track so if yiou add gauges you lose more vision.

I don't look at them all the time... but straight aways are a good place to take a quick peek. Autocross doesn't make a difference because its so short, but open lapping, when you're out there for a little while... things start to heat up, and its often wise to see them.
As far as the A-pillar... its in a bad spot as it is.. I don't want to make it any fatter. I'll figure out something.
What I really, really want... is a Defi-link. It displays and records 9 sensors onto a VAFC type display screen. Unfortunately its about $700 to get it up and running. Only downside is its digital and may prove to be harder to read than a good old bright orange needle.
