its a 97 d16y7 5 speed with 200k miles, the input shaft bearing is grinding and needs to be replaced, the clutch is probably glazed because it slips only when i shift over 5k rpm. but the problem is at ANY SPEED in any gear if I let off the gas it jerks forward 3 times before it smooths out, and it does the same again when I press the gas it jerks about 3 times no matter the speed, its the worst in gears in the back, 2nd and 4th. my thought was a weak or broken trans mount, or is it just my dying clutch doing it? Any help would be great.. I believe it to be the original clutch, so did the previous owner..

Hey I get the same thing but I have 270k km on mine and the clutch has less than 50k on it and the motor mounts were replaced recently with polyurethane. I'm not sure what it is either. Should you find anything out i'd be very interested to know.

Can you keep it from jerking? say u give it gas or ease off the clutch? I'm thinking it may be jerking because your dumping the clutch or just letting go of the gas to fast. If your in high rpm's and you just jump off the gas real quick your gonna get a couple jerks. I'm not sure how experienced you are at driving stick but the smoother you shift and combine the balance of releasing the clutch and easing on the gas the smoother you car will operate.

No, im talking about being in a gear, cruising, letting off the gas, jerking, then pressing the gas, no matter how hard i press it it still jerks.. it even does it at less than 2k rpm..

If your doing it at high RPMS it will jerk when you reapply the gas if you dont do it slowly. By high RPMS I mean 3k+. That being said, change your transmission fluid, that's where I'd start if it's bothering you.

Its been changed to amsoil, all of the maintenance is up to date now, fuel filter, cap and rotor, plugs, plug wires, new air filter, seafoamed the engine, it should be good, but i still have an off idle and this jerking at any rmp when i press the gas and let off

Have you cleaned the throttle body and sensors? Probably seafoamed the engine to death... I don't understand why people use that stuff.

nah its done the jerking thing forever according to the previous owner of 2 years.. and seafoam is good in small doses rather than the usual **** it throw the whole can in every hole in the car that ppl do..

I was told to buy a new TPS because it may have a dead spot causing it, and for 12 bucks it cant hurt to get a new one and calibrate it anyway..

TPS is hard to calibrate if you don't know how to do it... you can buy a whole new throttle body off ebay for 60-70 dollars and you replace everything

clutch slipping and catching again? does the revs and speed match?

mounts (engine? Trans?) on their way out, so whole drivetrain rocks back and forth causing the jerks? (visual inspection for tears)

As for idle being out a whack maybe an idle relearn will help.

my old '98 and new '08 manuals both did/do the jerk thing a little bit...

I only notice this when driving slower, in 3rd gear downhill (usually under 3000 rpms), I let off the gas, it gives a slight jerk...then when I reapply gas at the bottom of the hill, it will give a jerk again...

feels like maybe the clutch jumping/skipping

No slips though...the '98 did it when I bought it until I sold it 50k miles later @ 150,000 miles
