nice, i love dirt bikes, i have a KX 100

redrocket600 09-22-2006 10:15 PM

Dude, be carefull! Those '04's are notorious for blowing up! You gotta keep tabs on valve clearance every 20ish hours. My little brother's has blown up twice now...the fist time it was only 2 weeks old...the f-er overheated and melted EVERYTHING in the head...Wasn't the fist one at our local shop with that problem either.

Do you race or just mess around?

(BTW, I meant the 04's have the problem...05 and up are okay...)

varner88 09-22-2006 10:16 PM

haha ya.. dude i havnt rode a bike since.. uh 2 years ago? i dont even know but im so glad to be back im gonna practice all winter and get ready for race season

dp_yz713 09-22-2006 10:16 PM

^^^yes 2 strokes rock!!! lol

i still have my 2 stoke and love it. had a four stroke and sold it

bike has brand new rebuilt motor new valves everything i bought it from my friend and his dad owns that shops just dirt as you can see on the graphics you cant find a minter bike.. but your right the uni cams are known for dropping valves its just something you have to deal with the bikes are suppose to be rebuilt every season anyway.

did your brother blip the throttle in the air often, cuz you can float a valve easily and seize the motor

varner88 09-22-2006 10:25 PM

hahah dude braaarrrpppp i cant wait to ride tomarrow i had 3 monsters im so hyper i cant sleep i got my gear ready to go

dp_yz713 09-22-2006 10:28 PM

hahahah braaappppp. yah i wish i could ride, but instead i am at the Oreily Fall Nationals, NHRA, in Dallas  swwweeeeeeeeettttt!!!

varner88 09-22-2006 10:35 PM

haha... i knew sumtin was missin in my life now its back haha

redrocket600 09-22-2006 10:37 PM

The first time blowing up didn't really have anything to do with valves...Honda just didn't put big enough radiators on the bikes and there was something else with the cooling system...couldn't keep the bike cool enough and BAM dead! Wish I would have gotten pics but half the piston was in the header...the other half in the bottom end, cylinder walls were NASTY looking....

varner88 09-22-2006 10:40 PM

thats sucks.. did he properly break the bike in?

redrocket600 09-22-2006 10:47 PM

Break-in? Is there such a thing? That's gotta be one of the most controversial things in the world! But like I said..cooling. Put bigger radiators on and filled it with engine ice and haven't had a problem since (well, cooling related that is).

dp_yz713 09-22-2006 10:51 PM

yah i heard somethign about the hondas not having enough cooling, but if its not broken in properly that will hurt alot too. hey chris is the rebuilt motor broken in or not?

breaking a bike in is one of the most important things. actually the most important. if you jump on the bike and go wide open the first time dont expect much life on the engine.....

brand new off the showroom floor, go straight to the track and the first turn what happens, poaw new motor!!

varner88 09-22-2006 10:55 PM

uh r you serious lol.. thats the reason your brother bike blew up you have to ride the bike 1/4 throttle for 10 hours b4 the bike is properly broken in.. if its not broken in it will blow up asap..

and nah my bike has 0 hours on it but break in procedure is different for rebuilt motor i only have to 1/4 throttle it for 30 mins let it sit for 20 then 1/2 throttle for 30 mins then let it sit and its done..

dp_yz713 09-22-2006 10:58 PM

thats the part i hated about doing a top end on my 2 stoke. changed it about every 15-20 hours, then have to break in 1/4 for 30, set, half for 20, set, then brrraaaaaaaapppppp!!! braaappp braaappp, brrrraaaaappppp lol. much funnier when its done in person, while twisting your wrist hahah

varner88 09-22-2006 11:00 PM

haha yaaa..

RHCP0801 09-23-2006 12:10 AM

all brrraaaapppsss edited. funny only if you know what it means and sounds like lol

thats the part i hated about doing a top end on my 2 stoke. changed it about every 15-20 hours, then have to break in 1/4 for 30, set, half for 20, set, then should be good

boricua_civic 09-23-2006 02:31 AM

IrockCivics 09-23-2006 08:58 PM

shyt is nice, I'm looking to buy a quad for the winter to take it to pa, But I dont know too much about them.

varner88 09-23-2006 10:46 PM

my lil bro is selling his if your interested ill pm you cuz we wanna get him a new one for xmas

redrocket600 09-24-2006 01:39 AM

Wow, you think the two-fiddy's got torque...try riding the 450!

In my family when we buy new vehicle/bike/4-wheeler...whatever...we warm it up and run it a lil bit, then rev it full throttle for roughly 5 seconds and then go about riding it normal...for us, that is break-in.

Now I could go through the logic of this break-in method, the engineering, the materials science...etc but there's a 99% chance that if you already don't believe that is "proper" then explaining wont change ur mind....and it's a lot to explain sooo....yeah....

It's how we've always done it and we've never had a problem with it.

varner88 09-24-2006 08:14 AM

yea the 450 is fast to.

Civicman1988 09-24-2006 09:12 AM

thast nice i like ATV more though

varner88 09-24-2006 04:45 PM

i just sold my quad.. cant really do much with it lol but it was a 04 ltz400 with a thumper racing 470 kit in it and lots of other stuff

a car i dont break in, but apparently you have never owned a brand new 2 stoke. you try that and i will be flying past you laughing and saying "haha what a dumb ass for blowing his brand new bike". then you will be crying because you have to spend $90 for a new top end, assuming you can change it yourself.

didnt you say the bike blew up a second time??? what was the cause of that one

and yes the 450s are sick machines. i used to race a friends yz450f for him, wheelied ever gear  but its a yamaha so what do you expect

varner88 09-25-2006 08:50 AM

lol.. being i go to the track all the time you should see half these idiots who rip it on a brand new bike and come off the track walking them in.. ha people just dont get that bikes need to be broken in.

dp_yz713 09-25-2006 09:21 AM

i know. i mean even if you dont believe in "breaking a bike in" then you shouldnt expect it to last. i guess i just baby my bike because i want it too last. hell even once its broken in with a few hours on it, every time i hit the track i roll everything and keep it way less than half throttle for at least 3 or 4 laps. then once i rode and i go back after taking a break i still make a lap or two to warm the bike up.

varner88 09-25-2006 10:34 AM

lol well my bike is broken in now.. so i went around the track pinned lol

bOoStEd042dr 09-25-2006 10:42 AM

pretty nice man....but i'll stick with my 440ex...lol

a....that sounds odd.....it's way easier to just ride it how you plan on riding it.....but yeah whatever seats your rings...lol

varner88 09-25-2006 07:48 PM
