Do the Accords use a completely different transmission than the Civic then?

civicN00b 07-11-2006 12:30 AM

yes and no....both are transaxles, but i dont believe the civic has the same tranny as the accord. my best guess would be the odysey having the same tranny as the accord as honda extended their waranty for their same years..........put a tranny cooler on your tranny and it should last a whole lot longer.

tranny on a 2003 Ex civic coupe automatic is clicking at 90,000 miles. Trany oil turn black fast too. Trany oil has to be changed often 5 times already. Honda says wait till it slip. How much to fix this problem. Also waiting on oil pan and install. Oil change strip the thread on the pan with the wrong bolt.
I have a 2001 civic lx sedan manual and it has no problem at 75000 , haven't changed the tranny oil once yet. I always chang my own oil. My brother should have did it himself.

you should try getting the civic HX CVT oil filter kit and installing that. Put some lubecontrol LC20 (www.lubecontrol.com) in there for a while first to dissolve deposits. mine has been slipping for 10k miles at least, and im hoping i can fix it like this.

2004 DX

no big transmission problems other than 2nd being a little rough to engage compared to the 4 other smooth gears including reverse. No popping out of gear, BUT my clutch just F***** up on me, I am in the process of determining what the problem is exactly...

SSRcivic 09-20-2006 11:46 AM

01 EX M/T and have problems with my transmission starting from 35,000 until now which is 99,000. The synchro is all messed up but doesnt grind all the time. But dont have to worry much more about it for a few weeks cuz I got hit by a semi last night going 15 mph in a construction zone.

02 Civic Ex Auto Sedan - Tranny slipping at 125,000 miles.

same... I'll ride it til the wheels fall off.

thewood22style 09-22-2006 02:32 AM

I got an 01 EX automatic. Got it serviced under 1K ago then tranny just went out. Slips really bad in first and second. Honda shop says its totally shot. Code said Torque Converter clutch failure and incorrect gear ratio. Just ordered a new tranny today.

02 Auto Sedan 53000 miles

Transmission started slipping so I rebuilt it with the TCI overhaul kit before it totally died...

silver01lx 09-29-2006 10:35 AM

01 lx MT 2nd gear synchro went out, kept popping out of second, replace w/junkyard tranny(33kmi) has about 10k on it, but every since i put it in it has a rough engagement on 2 and 3

masarak 09-30-2006 12:58 AM

03 Civic EX MT.

Slight 2-3 gear upshift gear grind at near-redline worked it's way down to 3.5k where it was so loud that I started holding 2nd longer and upshifting to 4th. I don't drive aggressively or race. I always put the clutch pedal to the floor from before I move the stick until after the gear is engaged. Honda tech opened the tranny at 60k miles and said the clutch and other gears looked like new... couldn't figure out why the synchros in 3rd disentegrated. My theory is that when they adjusted the 01-02 trannys to fix their problems, some of the 03s ended up with new problems.

After getting the run-around from the dealership for a month or two, I decided to deal directly with the service manager and he got things done fast with no BS. $1,300+ bill to replace 3rd gear set, shift fork, etc. Extended warranty covered all but deductible and MT fluid. No problems since. Knew a guy with the exact same problem on his 03 RSX 5spd and got it replaced under 36k-mile warranty, no problem.

In process of gettting my third tranny

CSVT7 10-17-2006 08:57 PM

Most depressing thread ever! Especially since I just sent my 01 Coupe I just bought into the shop becauce it does not shift until it hits a very high rpm between 2nd and 3rd... its an auto tranny... Think I need a new tranny 2 days after I bought it?

dopes6070 10-17-2006 09:03 PM

how many miles? and does it rev after it goes out of 2 and before it hits 3rd or does it just shift late?

CSVT7 10-17-2006 10:51 PM

Has 68k miles, and it just shifts very late

dopes6070 10-17-2006 11:39 PM

you have PM

CSVT7 10-23-2006 12:09 AM

Heh.. ok, update.... 68k miles, Transmission rebuild. Oy!

mrchowmein 10-23-2006 12:34 PM

+1 indeed

5.0lxstang 10-23-2006 03:30 PM

I had a 97 HX, 90K miles on an auto before it started skipping. Got rid of it before it gave out completely.

dopes6070 10-23-2006 06:08 PM

If it was an HX model It would have a CVT trans which is much different then a normal honda auto. Not very many CVT equipped models sell compared to the # of auto and manual cars. So we dont really hear much about then failing.

_SKIN_ 11-03-2006 11:14 PM

I am on my 3rd transmission (manual). My first was at about 60,000 miles. second was at 71,000 miles. Aparently I had a bad through out berring. But Honda did not figure that out till later when I could not shift into any gear... No grinding, just would not go into gear. The original problem was grinding into second gear. The guy at the dealershit told me that I needed to learn to double clutch! His boss was pretty pissed when I mentioned that he had suggested that I get this double clutch training.

Oh yeah, 2001 Civic EX Coupe manual trans.

and oh oh yeah, My brother convinced me to buy the $800 extended warrantee till 100,000 miles or 7 years... Well... 3 transmissions (including the original), 2 alternators, 4... count em... 4 Sets of front struts, clutch, though out berring, seat brackets, heater core, gas tank gas filter and gas pump, and numourus other little things covered by that $800 warrantee my brother said I should get... God bless that poor bastard, Hes a goofy ****er but I love him.

BTW @ 114,000 miles now.

EG06KRS 11-05-2006 10:06 AM

2001 Civic EX Manual 3rd gear scrapes, 5th sometimes scrapes. I think honda should do something about this shit.

mr.rowdy 11-06-2006 10:57 AM

2001 lx 2nd and 3rd gear syncros suck super bad the most problems ive ever had with a transmission and i've owned about 20 vehicles

dopes6070 11-06-2006 02:51 PM

You have owned 20 cars at the age of 22?

instalher 11-06-2006 03:43 PM

my tranny was completly rebuilt at 89000km then at 107km it stopped shifting into first. so i had to hit second then first and it would go in.... called honda they told me to go fuc# myself as warranty was to 100000km. asked if they would help me out as my car has been in for everything from blown alternaters to water leaks...

4bangin 11-06-2006 04:22 PM

My main drive shaft bearing went after only 64,000 miles. Paid over $800 to have it fixed........bullshit.

Buds302 11-06-2006 04:26 PM

are the trannys in the 7th gen civics alot different from any other gen civic? i was wondering..cause i used to own a 4th gen civic and i can tear down and replace all the bearings in the tranny for under 100 bux. and less than 2 hours of work...i was wondering if this is possible with the 7th gen civic?
