let me see what u bought

sepudo 07-28-2003 11:09 PM

my setup

1 Attachment(s)
I got my setup installed a few days ago. I got all the stuff for $20 at my local sound shop.
I noticed that when I remote start my car now, it doesn't hesitate. Before it used to churn too long sometimes and it sounded kinda bad. Other than that I haven't noticed anything too noticeable, but then again I never have had any complains with my car. I love my car.

take a look and feel free to comment.

it doesnt matter if his stuff is good or not and saving $5 absolutely doesnt matter either..
actually it will cost more than his stuff if i do it myself as well..what i want is the experience and the feeling of succeed when i finish it..like "OH i made it! im genius" things like this..lol
if u wanna just buy stuff and install it urself, its all good go ahead..but i just wanna do it myself completely independent..i learn lots of things by doing that..and it worth all those money, time, and effort..thats all about it..

yup i bought my wire from them and other :)

slamtank 07-31-2003 11:39 PM

manual of a power wire that im gonna buy for this mod states that it resists temperature range -40 to 60 C..is it enough?
i think engine bay would get much hotter than that..
its hpm power wire

cdmx 07-31-2003 11:45 PM

yea man its enough...just remember its usually used for power wire for an amp and goes into the engine bay and to the battery why would they use wire where its plastic shell would melt? its heavy duty wire..

opto_isolator 08-01-2003 12:28 AM

Most 4 AWG power cable from the audio manufacturers has a rating of 105 degrees Celcius for the insulation. This is plenty high for the engine bay. I would recommend something along those lines, anything lower and you could risk melting the insulation depending on where you run it.....

slamtank 08-02-2003 12:05 AM

link

this one is what im talking about..
it states -40 to 60 degree C
i live in nc where goes up to about 95~105F when its hot

happies713 08-02-2003 12:52 PM

I have never had a problem with any customer reporting that the wire has melted or burned. =) just keep it away from places that may be extremely hot.

gearbox 08-03-2003 02:17 AM

I haven't had any problems either.

slamtank 08-04-2003 11:01 AM

hey has any of u guys know or hear about "alternator + grounding"?
im not sure if thats how ppl say but im talking about connecting battery + terminal and alternator..not an alternator body itself(body is - as i kno) but theres + bolt..
i just heard about this from another car's forum..and im told that this brings the best result of any grounding..

slamtank 08-04-2003 11:03 AM

when i disconnect battery, i take off - terminal first and then +, right?
and when i reconnect it, i just do backward + first and then -, right?

nymbus2k 08-04-2003 03:43 PM

the grounding kit does work .. i recently installed the Arospeed Ground Wire Kit which uses a central grounding point that branches off to the major components of the engine .. this is my setup:

1. negative terminal to junction box (central ground point)
2. tranny to junction box
3. passenger's firewall to junction box
4. driver's strut tower to passenger's firewall
5. front radiator support to junction box
6. engine block to juction box

i have an apexi rsm installed in my car but i don't have the g-sensor (optional) .. i used the numbers given to me to actually see if there was an improvement .. i measured 0-60km:

without AROSPEED GROUND WIRE KIT:

1: 5.9sec
2. 5.81sec
3. 5.87sec
AVG: 5.86sec

with AROSPEED GROUND WIRE KIT:

1. 4.81sec
2. 4.83sec
3. 4.78sec
AVG: 4.81sec

there is an aproximate 1 second improvement

the voltage has also increased by .5

Grey 08-04-2003 05:17 PM

No way! Seriously!? That much of an improvement? That's nuts. I think I'll DIY me something like that then. Central grounding point. :)

nymbus2k 08-04-2003 05:30 PM

i was shocked too .. but the biggest improvement was when i grounded the engine block instead of one of the coils .. my initial setup included one of the coils to the junction box .. but then i experimented and found that i got a better increase when i grounded the engine block

slamtank 08-04-2003 09:06 PM

dont u have some pics of them?
kinda different way from ppl did

hypnotic7thgen 08-04-2003 10:46 PM

yeah i'd like to see some pics

gearbox 08-04-2003 11:54 PM

Yeah, where did you ground the engine block?

nymbus2k 08-05-2003 12:03 AM

i'll try to get pix up soon ... i don't have a digi cam so i'll have to borrow my cousin's

the ground for the engine block is the wire that's attatched to the front radiator support

in this pic .. it's the silver wire from the engine to the front rad support:
http://gametrax.net/ground.jpg
pic from mex .. thx :D

slamtank 08-05-2003 01:30 AM

why did u make ur junction box to be the cetral ground point while ppl choose negative terminal?

nymbus2k 08-05-2003 02:40 AM

i got the arospeed ground wire kit for free .. i work for a magazine and get some products from manufacturers :D

as someone stated earlier, there are 2 methods: serial and parallel .. the arospeed/hks kits are parallel and the hyper ground system/happies(diy) kits are serial ... i'm not sure which method is better but if i were to guess, i'd go with paralled since each ground point is in contact with the negative terminal and efficiently grounded rather than having it looped or in series

IMO, if you were going to diy .. i'd do something similar to sepudo:
http://www.7thgencivic.com/forums/at...postid=1259196
every ground point he chose is in contact with the negative terminal

slamtank 08-05-2003 05:31 AM

oh yeh..that looks good..
as u see there, he gathered all the wires at negative terminal..
im just curious why u did at junction box?..and i guess its fusebox right?
