Description:

Looking to sell above vehicle. It drives but as per below it likely will be better for part out. I would like to sell to someone who can part it out or repairs it if desired.

Car has internal and external cosmetic defects and dents. Mechanically the engine is in trouble with likely coolant leaking into the oil. Otherwise, many good parts still on this car. Some worthwhile mentions: Transmission is excellent. Has 2 new front tires, AC system re-done 1.5 years ago (blows cold), starter, alloy wheels, and coolant pump replaced 3 years ago. many other parts replaced over the last years.

Car originally purchased in central New Jersey but is now located in Cape Coral, FL. I am the second owner. No accidents. Non-smoking family. No water damage (Car moved to FL in late 2023). Clean title in hand. Cash only.

**All offers will be considered. **

Sounds like a classic case of cracked block. Price is probably a little high if that's the case.

Morning brotatochip! Thanks for letting me know. may be the block but unclear exactly what the problem is. I agree that def not something that will be an easy fix.

Maybe a little high on the price. I appreciate the feedback as I haven't sold a lot of cars. I am not a car salesman just trying to put this little Honda into the hands of someone who can make something out of her. Lots of money put into the car over the last couple years so many good and relatively new parts on the car.

Re: 2006 Honda Civic EX Coupe

I did not mean to offend you with my comment. If it's not a cracked block, it may be worth the $1700 you originally asked for.

I have fixed one of these with a cracked block for a coworker. The "fix" is buy a JDM engine with ~50k miles and swap it in.

Re: 2006 Honda Civic EX Coupe

No offense taken. On the other hand you are scaring away people that may have been at least a little interested initially...

I am just a part time/hobby mechanic but I doubt that the block is damaged. It is possible though. I suspect that it is just a gasket but the oil has definitely mixed with coolant. No visible cracks, no external leak, "normal" smelling exhaust, and no smoke. The engine starts, drives and idles normally. (At time of incident/diagnosis, coolant was refilled and car was driven home about 8 miles - no issues with engine on drive once coolant tank and radiator refilled.) Performance of engine does not seem to be effected at this time. Again, the engine will eventually be un-drivable if leak is not addressed.

IMO this is worth more than $1200, but like i said, I am not expert and am open to offers. If you have a more experience in pricing than I then please DM with your thoughts (or send offer if interested. )

Re: 2006 Honda Civic EX Coupe

this first batch until 2008 (?) of this cars' generation is actually famous for having cracked blocks...

you can actually find them visually and confirm yourself if that is the case or not. G'lucky

Here is the sticky thread on the cracked block 8th gen engines with a picture.

Not a good thing to be famous for. I will take another look when I get home.

Not something we are used to hearing but low ball offers are OK!

Re: 2006 Honda Civic EX Coupe

You can actually see pictures I took while working on my coworkers Civic in the thread @sdaidoji posted. Coolant was leaking through the crack and into the oil.

Re: 2006 Honda Civic EX Coupe

Additional photos uploaded.

I reviewed the most common cracked engine block spots post and no cracks found. No lift so not a great look underneath but I did find a wet spot on what I believe is the oil pan. It may be a posterior crack but not confirmed as I do not have the equipment to get under there. New small drop of coolant/oil on the garage floor in the photo if you look closely.

Would love to not junk this beauty but may have to if no takers. Not in a rush to sell. Flexible on price. she will be garaged like the queen she is until I figure out the next steps.

Re: 2006 Honda Civic EX Coupe

just get in a lift and check them. If confirmed no cracks, you can ask initial price
or just drop in another engine post 2008

Re: 2006 Honda Civic EX Coupe

Lift will likely not happen. I will see if I can borrow one from a neighbor but I doubt it. I don’t have the tools or equipment for that anymore and I don’t plan on starting up again.

Please bring your own equipment if you want to lift and check.

low ball offers ok.
