Clunk Clunk
Does anyone have any idea how to stop my front wheels making clunk while riding small bumps. It seems like something's hitting metal to metal somewhere on the wheels.
I've recently had my front and rear struts replaced by Honda, but the clunk remains. Honda once again say this is normal. Could it be the front springs?
Getting really tired of this Civic. Please help!!!

If you have aftermarket springs, then it's probably the metal spring bouncing up and down in the metal perch. Get some coil isolators and wrap the bottom coil, then reinstall. Easy fix, but it isn't causing damage so don't sweat it. Same problem here, but fixed now.
Lek: Coil isolators are the rubber adhesive bands that come wrapped around the bottom of your stock springs. They keep the metal spring from rattling and/or bouncing against the metal perch that the spring sits in. If you buy aftermarket springs they usually don't come with these coil isolators. Hence, my clanking problem. But I just stripped the rubber adhesive off my stocks and put them around my
Neuspeeds. Anyway, it's all a moot point since you have the OEM springs. In your case, I'd be up at the dealer getting it checked out.

HYPR DRV .................. You're my hero!!!
Today, I went to the small back street garage who services my older Mazda and told him about my problem with my Civic clunk on the front wheels and also what you said above.
The technician raised my car, took out my front OEM springs, removed plastic stuff around the bottom of the spring. He then took a clear plastic garden hose pipe and cut off 2, 1 foot pieces, one piece for each spring. He then pushed it around the bottom of each spring and put the car back together.
Bravo the front end is as quiet as a mouse and NO CLUNK going over bumps, but now there's a clunk on the back. Gona do the same on the rear tomorrow if possible.
Simple things work for a few bucks.

Hrm, I wonder if this is my problem... I notice a noise that kinda sounds like a cross between a squeak and a rub from the front passanager side - i wasnt sure if it was something in the engine bay or if was in the wheel well....
Lek: Glad it worked out for ya. Surprised to hear of that problem on OEM springs tho. Hmmm.
Obtix: Try what Lek did. You can use all kinds of isolators like the garden hose idea, the rubber adhesive wrapped around your stock springs, or a $3 spiral cable wrap from Radio Shack works too. Cheap but effective!! I wish all problems were that easy to fix.

Forgot to mention, it doesn't stop the body roll and sway on this car just the clunk.
My back street technician recons it's a design fault with the double wishbone suspension on all 2001 Civics. Hmmm ........................ will Honda ever admit this for safty reasons. Maybe I should just fit handels for my passengers to hold onto.
