Oven baked Taillights - HELP!!
Those of you that have put your taillights or headlights in the oven. How did you keep the plastic off the oven rack? I cleared my headlights a few months ago without using the oven or any heat. That was EASY!! The black glue was soft enough without heat.
I bought a set of TYC Elegante taillights with the intent to open them the same way to paint the inside to match my satin silver. To my dismay, the black glue on the TYC's is a totally different kind of glue. This stuff has dried HARD and has no give at all.
I see some people have baked thiers in the oven. I've found posts anywhere from 200 to 350 degrees for 7 minutes up to an hour. I can handle that part (i hope), I'm only worried about keeping the taillight assembly off the oven rack to avoid melting a certain spot or burn marks. Did you guys set your lights on a towel or aluminum foil or something? What can I use to set it on that won't catch on fire, or burn/melt the plastic taillight?
Thanks,
Eric

i just laid them right on the rack, i've done my headlights as well as my altezza's and i've had no problems- about 275? for about 6 minutes or so, but you've gotta put them in a few times, after a few minutes, they cool right off and they'll crack if you don't re-heat them
